Description
If the Oilers trade RNH for Carlson, and Carlson re-signs as part of the deal, at a reasonable cap hit, is Edmonton better off for having an extra top defenseman rather than an extra 2C? To look at a worst-case scenario, I left the salary cap flat. The Oilers end up giving term instead of average value to keep Maroon, and they let Jokinen and Letestu walk. But they keep their top six together and upgrade their top defensive pairing a bit. Solid?

Yes I would love John Carlson if he can be signed to a 6 mill contract that'd be nice but if maroon wants that much he will walk we need money to sign benning and nurse also Drake needs more money

Not sure why people value Patrick Maroon as a player wroth more than 2.5M.

Put literally any sub-par power forward with Connor McDavid and you will get those results.

I think you're getting so excited about Carlson as a UFA. Eight years way too much term and even 6.1m might too much soon. A roster of 21 with no cap room. Think ahead

Whether he is worth it, I don't know, but I would guess he gets a similar deal to Fowler.

That's 52M over eight years. Yeah. I went for 49M over eight years, on the assumption that as a UFA, he could easily find a team with cap space to offer him 7x7, but the CBA allows the team that already has him to give him an eight year deal, so they have to match total, rather than cap hit, and can front load it a little bit, so he's still sure he gets paid about the same amount, even if he's bought out when he's old.

I appreciate the comment! That seems to allow them to field a 23 person roster. But when those results are 30 goals a season, and if he's able to repeat them next year, he's getting paid somewhere, and if I'm running the Oilers, I'm going to shell out for a decent wing, one way or another.
