If this was the cost to dump Joseph why wouldn't Ottawa just cut out the middle man and keep Pinto??

Ottawa is not looking to trade Pinto

The reason why they would consider trading Brannstrom (or Kubalik or Joseph) would be to create enough cap space to sign Pinto, not include him in the trade...

Also, you'd have to offer something they WANT more than Pinto and none of these pieces are close to that.
