Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Peeke, Andrew
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
Columbus moves a dman so they can keep Jiricek up when Werenski is also healthy, and add a middle six winger at a good salary cap number of just under 3 mil.
CBJ
  1. Garland, Conor ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Canucks add a RHD and get a draft pick for Garland retained, essentially committing 4.25 mil for three years in this trad (2.75 from Peeke, 1.5 retained).
2.
VAN
  1. Benning, Matthew
  2. Labanc, Kevin
  3. 2024 7th round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
San Jose moves on from Kevin Labanc, who starts the year as a healthy scratch and seems unlikely to make it back into their lineup.

SJS acquires a draft pick, and a more movable deadline asset where they can likely send Myers for another mid-round pick at half retained.
SJS
  1. Myers, Tyler
  2. 2024 4th round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Canucks move on from Myers, who the market hates, and re-vamps their d-core even further with another defensive RHD.

Benning is playing over-his-head in SJS, eating over 19 mins a night. Better suited as a 3rd pair defensive PK defenseman.

Labanc is another borderline winger who needs a fresh start, but the Canucks do this deal more-so for re-vamping their defense and moving on from Myers.

Benning is excelling in a middle pairing shutdown role and has a fantastic contract. What are you even talking about lol

He averaged just shy of 20 min a night last season and handled it just fine

Take out Benning and the picks and… yea still no.
Sharks have less than zero need for Myers.

If the Nucks are interested in Benning, a 3rd/4th round pick in itself should be enough.

I know the Sharks have more than their fair share of pylons already so I don't think they'll be looking to add Myers even if he's meant to be filler for the cap. I do think Labanc should move on since Mike and Quinn are both clearly through with him (and have much shorter leashes with players than DW did), but I think that should be in a separate trade at a different time.

CBJ are only trading one player if they can get rid of multiple. Our entire issue is a roster squeeze. This is one out for one in.

I actually disagree here. The issue is a roster squeeze, but only because we have a bunch of bottom-6 forwards and bottom-pair D right now. We need upgrades, and Garland absolutely is that over players like Bemstrom, Foudy, Robinson, or Olivier. If Laine can stick at C, there's room in the middle-6, and I think he brings something valuable (where Peeke...doesn't). Garland at $3.45M isn't bad, getting rid of Peeke is addition by subtraction, and the 3rd doesn't amount to anything in all likelihood. I like it.
