Description

Today the League has every team on the docket.

I think this could be a great thing for the game that they should potentially do a few times a season.

But for today specifically I would do a Rivalry Slate. Match ups are below, and every year the winner of the game the previous year will get home ice for the next season.

For Marketing the game there would be a partnership with a company like draft kings for big promotions (Example, Make every team Puck line +110 but limit max wager or create a better Same Game Parlay system like Football has)

Next this may be controversial but they should welcome physicality and perhaps fighting, for today only they would change the 5:00 minutes for fighting 2:00 minutes.

This is about expanding the game for a day, the amount of people that tune into games for betting purposes and fights is something that has to be considered.

Highlighting the players would be next, have a few panels of guys that cover the games similar to TNT. Biz like him or not has been huge for the sport. So for teams doing the home coverage should get some alumni to come in and talk intermission for the home town audiences to see (Devils could have some guys like Scott Gomez, Cam Janssen, and Jason Arnott come on the intermission panel and cover the game with some banter and opinions on the team that maybe home town announcers that see the team on a daily basis wouldn't say. Maybe even interview a guy in between each period with some light funny questions.

On the ESPN "redzone" style coverage have every 15 minutes a team releases their new alternate and make it something people stick around for. Make sure there are no leaks and bring back some classic jerseys that hopefully can make a comeback in the league. (These would be the jerseys the teams would wear for the next 16 game night.

And no shootout for this day, any game that goes into overtime has 20 minute frames until there is a winner. Experiment, none of these games should go that long.

This day should not have any games the previous day or the following day, get everyone on the same rest and travel.

Lastly, every captain should be mic'd up.

Good thing your not comm, cuz 90% of them arent it. Deal with the shootout its not that bad. Yes lets change the rules cuz we're babies, 5 for fight is fine. Fighting is still in the game. Just say you want them to become soccer and have 3-2-1 pt system. Like cry cry cry cry cry all we do now a days

I'm not sure how you would have all that happen in one day. Maybe spread this over a week or two. That way more games could be nationally televised instead of just locally. That would grow the game more imo. The fight idea is a disaster waiting to happen, they shouldn't be encouraging fighting in the NHL. The NHL will become more popular not with more goons and fights but with higher skill and faster pace. Dinosaurs like Reaves, Lucic etc just slow the game down. They should make OT 10 mins anyhow and that way shootouts would be very rare. The jersey release is a cool idea but 32 x 15 mins is 8 hours, no one is going to stick around for that whole thing. They could simply release the jersey right before puck-drop or something for each game. Sabres Blue Jackets isn't a rivalry. Sabres would make more sense with Toronto and you can throw Ottawa and Columbus together

Do people seriously watch hockey for fights anymore? It's 2023. Hockey fights are just guys messing up their hands usually after clean hits that shouldn't warrant a fight anyway. The game has gotten so much faster and all around better. I much rather see star players making ridiculous plays than seeing Ryan reeves break his hand on some 4th liners helmet.

I hate the shootout too but it's not going away. I wish they'd do a 10 minute 4 on 4 then a 5 minute 3 on 3 just to limit the amount of shootouts even more.

The same game parlays are so limited for hockey because most of the stats are weighted against the away team. Hits and blocks especially get slanted to the home team so unless the league starts taking those stats seriously the betting companies aren't gonna let you bet on them.

Finally I think everyone agrees that if the league ever wants to be anything more than the 4th most popular sport then it needs to completely overhaul its marketing department (if it even has one). There are so many young stars in the league but unless you're watching every game you'd never hear of them. It's pretty pathetic.

Ok one more personal pet peeve of mine. No more boring country music! Showcase any other type of music. Country music doesn't get people amped up. It's just boring and depressing. Idc if the all star game is in Nashville. They have a lot of other great music in Nashville that doesn't make the crowd go mild.
