Description

So news today pretty much confirms what I thought and most people thought in regards to Backstrom. Again, this sucks. Highly doubt we see him next year either. If he couldn't handle this season idk how he's supposed to next year even with rest and I assume some form of rehab, plus he's gonna be 37 by the end of November next year.

Backstrom eventually going on LTIR does mean they should get enough relief to add Pacioretty and Edmundson to the lineup with cap space to spare. But it's not like that extra space does anything else for them, they aren't in a position to use assets to add. The roster just isn't good enough to keep pace with the rest of the east.

Agreed, this is tough for Backstrom and the team. Elite playmaker in his prime. It's too bad when injuries really force guys out of the game when they still want to play.

I do think with the added space, the Caps should look to take on contracts for picks at the TDL. With patches and edmundson, the Caps still should have about ~6mil leftover
