The Oilers trade doesn’t make sense cap wise at all.

Half retain on mrazek and oilers should do that

That package from Edmonton barely covers taking Campbell and sending Mrazak to the Oilers. Especially if the Hawks retain 50% on Mrazak, which they almost certainly would have to. No chance Murphy is included in the trade. And can't see the Hawks signing so many UFA's. No need for Walker, Aho and Fischer.

I mean Campbell based on pedigree and body of work before going to Edmonton should be worth taking a gamble on as a reclamation project....but my goodness if he doesn't follow up a terrible year last with an even worse start and instead of going down and dominating the A, he is 4.36 .819 in 3 games there....just when you think it can't get any worse. This proposal is short 1 signifcant piece, especially if you want retention on Mrazek. Murphy is worth a first (regardless of what advanced stats you want to slam him with) or the Hawks are not trading him....he fills a nice role as an experienced vet the rookie LHD can pair with to adjust to the league and won't be given away without compelling return....aka a 1st. Going into the season....Holloway and a 1st seemed about right on Campbell as again a rehab/can't really be THAT bad.....but he is trending toward just a flat out cap dump for his entire contract. Put it this way, if he were bought out or otherwise a UFA, what contract would he get? 1 year...a million? 1.5?

My counteroffer would be Campbell, '24 1st, '26 1st, and either Akey or Bourgault for Mrazek (1/2 retained), Murphy, & Ott '24 3rd ...because the Hawks will need to be compelled to move Murphy and Campbell is a 3 1/2 year 5 million per cap dump until he can stop a beach ball at the AHL level.
