Description
4 evenly balanced lines is not something the Sabres have had in a very long time and the team would be designed to play each forward line close to even minutes and can adjust based on matchup and situation. Every player in this lineup is set up to succeed and there shouldn't be any excuses for any player given the roles they would be playing. Hayton brings a strong two way game, proven NHL production, strong faceoff stats which the team is desperately lacking, and can play PK. I understand he is better than a 4th liner, but the goal is balance and he is exactly what this team could use. Lundell would be my 2nd choice for this spot but he's younger and plays for a division rival so would likely be harder to get. Mercer could fit here too but same thing. A more defensive 4th line will help groom Rosen defensively to eventually move up the lineup.

If you break down the lines, there is great balance:
Line 1: More offensively inclined, Skinner provides no defense, Thompson is capable of some but isn't amazing, Benson is good and can be supported given Skinner and Thompson's skillset
Line 2: Dawg line, not much explanation needed here, this line was great down the stretch a season ago
Line 3: Mitts and Tuch who are relatively good defensively and have experience provide good support and some defensive sheltering for Kulich to develop his defensive game
Line 4: More defensively inclined. Greenway and Hayton are good defensively and Rosen is underrated given his size, I think these are two perfect linemates to help him get a foothold in the NHL

The Levshunov pick comes in to replace Clifton the year after this one as well and ultimately Jokiharju long term, that's why I only gave him a 2 year deal although I like him. Levshunov seems like a perfect long term fit for the 2024 pick - great two way game, skill and grit combo, RHD, is playing on the same blueline as Strbak at mich state so there's a connection

These defensive pairings should stick given it takes advantage of each of their skillsets (outside of Clifton who can hopefully improve)

Fine trading either Rosen or Savioe, it doesn't ultimately matter which of the two but Rosen is the more complete player at the current moment so I kept him. Ostlund wouldn't be needed if we get a strong C that fits our timeline that is ready now but doesn't need to be traded unless there is a bigger swing.

Fine either resigning Robinson as the 13th FWD

Although it's a young team, this roster has strong playoff potential under the right coach, I think Granato's time is done and we need a new coach who has experience and can hold players accountable

Additional Details:
Just rights, I don't think he's a fit here and needs a change of scenery. Need to move on and admit we stalled his development. Still hasn't proved he can produce at an NHL level on the top 3 lines and doesn't have the skillset of a 4th liner. Not good at wing but too small for C and doesn't win faceoffs, just a player that needs a new situation. Return doesn't matter all that much

BUF
  1. Hayton, Barrett [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
maybe an overpay but younger two way centers that are strong in the faceoff dot are valuable
ARI
  1. Savoie, Matthew
Additional Details:
trade connection here given Savoie is currently playing with Conor Geekie at Whenatchee - makes perfect sense for Yotes

Idk anything about hayton but this team isnt making a big trade splash. Best case Pegula insists they overpay for a crappy FA. They just need to hit on top 5 picks this year and next year. Then hope those guys along with Benson in his 3rd year can help make up for other parts of the core being not nearly as good as everyone in buffalo thinks they are.

Cap is going up next year, $87.7M so you’ll have done extra $ to throw around in FA or at TDL if team is competitive next year

The splash they need to make is on a goaltender, cause neither UPL or Levi are ready

Don't disagree but the way this team plays in their own end would make Bradeur look like a average goalie
