That's an easy no for the Leafs. Vladar has term on his bad contract. He's a bigger negative asset than Samsonov's expiring deal so really they are trading all that for Tanev which is an obvious overpay.

Calgary doesn't consider the Philly trade

Vladar hasn't completely lost his mental like Sammy. That may not be the exact trade but I would not be shocked to see a deal involving Vladar and Tanev going to Toronto with Sammy going back to Calgary. Remember, your GM really liked Vladar and probably still does. His contract is not bad either and he plays much better when he gets more games

His contract is bad. He's a backup goalie earning 2 mil and hasn't put up reasonable numbers for 2 seasons now. There's no lipstick that's going to cover that pig. More than that, it's the fact that bad contract has term to it. It's a much bigger negative value asset than an expiring deal. Bigger in total cap hit, bigger in actual money being paid.

Thats the way I see it, and Vladar isnt just a much better option to back up Woll than Samsonov, it also frees up 1.5mil. Sure samsonov is expiring but thats the only thing he has going for him right now. And Jones is not as good as Vladar.

Samsonov is so lost right now, but flat out dumping him and his 3.5mil cap hit is probably a 3rd and a bit more (a 5th even), so that makes the deal Liljegren and a 1st THREE drafts away for Tanev at 50% and Vladar. (and bear in mind that as Liljegren enters his 7th pro season, hes never played more than 67 games in a season, established himself as a top 4, healthy scratch in playoffs, just 156 nhl games in 6 yrs, and an expiring RFA, who is getting almost 2mil or more even though hes only played 15 games so far this year, so you're not talking Rasmus Sandin value)

Based on what exactly? Samsonov at least has possible upside. He's been that goalie before. What has Vladar ever done to be a better option? The reality is that neither one is a good option. Why would you pay for a bad option ... who's going to be a bad option for an extra year?

Analytically, Samsonov is the 2nd worst goalie in the league this season on a per game basis. Vladar is bottom 10 too. Vladar was bottom 10 last season as well. If you are paying that 3rd and 5th to dump Samsonov, why would you pay assets to take on a goalie who has a consistent record of being a bottom 10 goalie in the league and locking him in for an extra year as well? The Leafs best option is neither of these guys, they are both bad options. Martin Jones has outplayed them both. Go with him and you'd be better off if not well off.
