Would Canes Consider

Canes pass, they can clear cap elsewhere. Like moving out Raanta/Deangelo. Bunting is cheaper, has more term and has more points than Bertuzzi. No clue why he would suggest trading Bunting when they have better options than trading an important forward piece.

Why would the Canes trade a more effective player with term and a lower AAV for a rental?

There's lots of reasons they'd consider it. Despite his struggles Bertuzzi has a higher ceiling, just had a monster playoff which teams value, it clears cap for them this year and beyond to acquire a goalie and re-sign more important players.

Bunting is their 9th most used forward and was reportedly on the table for a cap clearing move to address the goaltending. This accomplishes that while also mitigating (and even potentially improving on) the loss of Bunting.

Canes ain’t doing that obviously but leafs aren’t gonna pay the price to acquire bunting

If the Canes wanted Bertuzzi over Bunting, they would have signed him in the offseason instead. Bunting is playing much better than Bertuzzi, and has been the key to unlock the Canes PP. As it stands, Bunting has term, is cheaper, and is straight up better. No reason to downgrade to Bertuzzi.
