I think you can solve the retention issue by throwing another mid-round pick to a facilitating team to eat that $2.5M instead of San Jose burning their last slot this year and next.

I do wonder if San Jose passes though - Coghlan & Lemieux are pending UFAs and nothing more than warm bodies here, and I'd argue that a rebuilding team trying to build a new culture is likely to be a terrible fit for Tony DeAngelo. And while the 1st is fine, I think Gunler has lost a little of his prospect sheen - San Jose is giving off two of their better veteran assets here and just not getting a ton of value back, in my eyes. I think they do better moving those two guys separately if that's something they're planning on.

Please keep DeAngelo away from our young prospects, he is the opposite of what they need. I could see the Sharks sending over Ferarro for the 1st, but none of this other stuff.
