Description

I think letting Trocheck walk was a mistake, and then re-signing Staal this most recent offseason was a compounding mistake. With the roster set up in this fashion, the Canes are a much deeper team, and have a better cap flexibility heading into the 2024 off-season. I also think if this is how the roster was made, certain players would have better career trajectories, namely KK and Drury. As good as Staal still is, I think he took away opportunities that would have otherwise likely gone to KK or Drury, that would have helped really develop their overall games.

In this scenario, the Canes might be more willing to move Necas in the 2024 off-season than they might be as of right now. This also gives Aho more support down the middle, especially if the Kuznetzov trade is made, and KK doesn’t get rushed into being a 2C.

Would the Canes be a better team now and in the future if these moves are made?
