Jones = top 4 defenseman overpaid by a couple mil.
Vlasic = 37 year old ahl defenseman overpaid by about 6.5 mil. Hawks will stick with the much younger and much better player. They're not hurting for cap space anytime soon.

See, the thing is… Jones is still good albeit overpaid by maybe 2.5 million. If you put him on a team like Dallas where he wouldn’t have to do it all, he would probably be an elite number 2 D.

The other Vlasic, the bad one that is, is not the same.

I understand that Jones is much better than Vlasic (the older cousin.) I figured the value to Chicago was saving $9.5M per year for the 4 years after Vlasics's contract expires. So they can afford to pay Bedard and other young players. This is a way for Chicago to get out of Jones' contract without retaining $2M+ for six years.

I understand the thought process but Jones is the only long term contract on the team. There's so much flexibility to the hawks cap situation that the Jones contract won't be a problem until the last year or 2 of his deal. And if it's a problem sooner that just means the hawks are ahead of schedule and their hitting on a majority of their prospects which is unlikely
