It is interesting because Tanev is the player that the Leafs need. 2 and a half seasons of his dependability, leadership and hopefully mentorship. Big battles with Tampa looming, you know the Leafs would love to have Tanev around for three postseason runs...
But at what price? I believe other teams know that the Leafs have wingers to throw around. This is the least valuable position in hockey, and those teams have a reason to push the Leafs for more. They have every imaginable piece available to trade for an experienced Dman. Rentals, prospects of all descriptions, all picks and an extra to boot, replacement level defence, wingers.
Veteran rentals like Komarov have no value to Vancouver, and real value to Toronto.
Maybe Tanev for this bundle: Soshnikov, Rychel, Carrick, 2018 late 1st, 2019 4th.
