I can tell you we’d pass on that. That’s a little pricey for Schenn. Caps need the help there so maybe they’d bite but i’m sure they could come up with something. Picks probably exceed Richardson and Connauton value but not by alot so at the deadlne....maybe. The OEL trade is intiguing, a bit high , tho i dont see Buffalo as the landing spot.

Orpik is a bit overpaid, but his contract ends before the Caps have to negotiate with Ovechkin or Backstrom, and the salary cap is going up enough that they can decide whether to sign or trade John Carlson by the deadline, on his own merits, without overpaying to dump Orpik's contract.

Orpik for Schenn might be fine, if the Coyotes need Orpik's leadership, toughness, penalty killing, nastiness, hitting, shot blocking, or the defense that put him in the top ten of the league in plus/minus last year. I think the Caps would downgrade to Schenn to get all their ducks in a row in terms of lefties vs. righties and the extra salary cap space to add another forward for a playoff run.

But the Caps have won a playoff round in each of the three seasons they've had Orpik, and he's been a part of each one. They've had hall of famers before, but never had three straight years of getting out of the first round. Orpik and Niskannen have been a solid, if unamazing, investment. They might even lead the Caps to another President's trophy, and they seem like good guys to have around in the playoffs.

A reporter asked Brian MacLellan last summer if he considered buying Orpik out instead of trading Johanson, and he laughed, and said, "no, I don't think we considered that."

Buffalo laughs at you then hangs up and changes their number lol.
They don’t need to give up Dahlin or Svechnikov + for a year and a half of OEL. Even if they did re-sign him long term, they could easily just roll with a cheaper Dahlin and have absolute control for 9 years. Especially since they already have Scandella and McCabe on the left side that is capable of top 4. I think they would go with Svechnikov too just cause their offense is awful.
I don’t think Washington is that desperate to get rid of Orpiks contract. They can just but him out in the off season and make a little bit of cap room and not get any worse.
Boston isn’t going to take that little of return for Zboril.
I think the Nashville and pens trades are good. Especially for at the deadline.
I just don’t see why Carolina does that trade. It’s fair but I just don’t think they’d do it.
