Description
Toronto sacrificed its first rounder in each of 2018 and 2019 to be much better with Tanev, Brassard, Glendening, and Hunwick (salary reasons).
These four effectively cost: two 1sts, one 6th, Bozak, Carrick, Leivo, Pickard, Rosen, Neilsen and Martin (salary)
In 2019/20, Brassard has moved on, as have free agents: JVR, Komarov, Hainsey, Polak, McIlhenny.
Without JVR, the Leafs fit easily under the cap while paying all the forwards and re-signing Gardiner. They could also re-sign JVR with Marleau money, if they can ship out his 6.25M.

The fact that you traded away to young prospects for an aging and garbage Hunwick makes this thread horrible. PIT is begging people to take on his contract and you just brought him back to the leafs for a premium. Disgusted

Luke Glendening is worth no more then a 5th. Why would leafs give up a young goalie in pickard for a 4th line centre?

Chris Tanev is garbage and VAN is asking alot more then what you have traded. He's literally a better version of M.Marincin. Would rather keep A. Neilsen then bringing in his contract. No TY to all of them

Tanev is one of the league's best defensive defencemen.

Leafs don't need Hunwick. Leafs have 3 NHL LHD they are happy with and rookie Borgman who is now is the AHL due to waiver eligibility. You have to know Tanev is going to get more than if he traded. I just don't think the Leafs are the trade partner. Leafs aren't going to give any significant futures for him, a true contender might though.

Everything Palhal said, and the fact that Tanev is on LTIR the whole bloody season. Sorry, VAN can keep that garbage. Were more then happy keeping our prospects and signing a RHD in the offseason
