Description
Yes a 2nd for Glendening. Please remember the Leafs got a 4th for Sosh. Still think it is just crazy to give up that super valuable pick? Also stop worrying about a 4C with a 1.8M cap hit. Luke is not old, and could be traded again later for value, as a faceoff winning 4C.
The Tanev deal is a big building block for Vancouver, and all of those assets will find better use there obviously.
I know, all three guys can probably make Van's roster before the year is done (Rosen in the absence of Tanev, and likely Gudbranson will also be dealt). And they have NHL futures, even on a real NHL team far better than these Canucks. But this is paying a real price. The Leafs have strong drafts to trade from, and all the pieces needed to be bold.
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Tanev, Christopher
Additional Details:
Overpaying for Tanev, but he is what the Leafs need. It would be very hard to include Pickard and a 1st. However, Tanev for the next three playoff runs could result in glory. That is a bigger deal than the overpay.
VAN
2.
TOR
  1. Glendening, Luke ($300,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Hoping to appease Wings fans who need to see a 2018 2nd for Glendening. He is worth it to the Leafs if DET retains a bit of salary. They have Green coming off the books, and other salaries should be traded for a brighter future, so they can afford a small retention, in order to get cheaper and pick 6 times in the first three rounds.
This way LG is only a 1.5M cap hit in the next three years, which is more palatable, but not make or break.
Maybe DET sends back a 2020 7th if they don't retain at all.
DET
  1. Rychel, Kerby
  2. 2018 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Rychel has no future with Leafs and probably in the NHL at all.

Trading your platoon AHL goalie, your 14th forward that can't crack the lineup at age 24, an AHL depth defensemen and a late first for Tanev is not overpaying. Its underpaying

Pickard is an NHL calibre goalie. When he was with the Avs, he was the starter but it wasn't his fault they were losing they were just BAD! Lol
Leivo is a PP specialist that sure isn't in the lineup but that's because Babcock is stubborn has nothing to do with Leivo.
Rosen is unknown to me. He looked good when he was playing but had a couple brainfarts. He's played better on the Marlies.
The 1st won't be past 20th which is late 1st. Leafs are not contenders yet, Leafs are only in this position cause the Atlantic (beyond Lightning) is just SHOCKINGLY bad.

I don't see the intrigue with Tanev. He's not a make or break cup contending D man. If the Leafs get him it doesn't make them cup contenders.

Although i somewhat agree with you. The trade is still decent. A 1st is a 1st. Pickard has found some success at the NHL level already so what does it matter if he does bad on an AHL team, their AHL team could just be bad defensively and judging how their team needs someone like tanev, thats probably the case. But yes pickard and the 1st is whats enticing for the canucks here.

He started when Varmalov was hurt. He was traded for an AHL depth player and a 6th round pick 4 months ago.
you can't be a power play specialist when you have 10 NHL goals for YOUR CAREER
