Description
BUF needs a "BUFF" type guy to mentor their new young stud in Dhalin. He brings leadership and stability to the top pair for the next few years and the CAP swap between O'Reilly and Buff is nill. Both teams get a major need. WPG RHD depth greatly depleted but based on the PIT, VGK, and WSH of the world showing you don't need a full compliment of high paid D when your forwards can get it done WPG decides to give Niku-Poolman bigger roles as both showed well. O'Reilly also despite being high priced is an excellent 2-way C who could flourish with Ehlers and Laine. This of cours is based on the pretense Stastny can't be re-signed due to the FA demand for C and him being #2 on available FA C's under Tavares.

CGY needs depth winger skill and is flush on D. They don't want to move Hamilton so they make a lesser move to get a solid middle 6 winger with potential in Armia.

Little moved for CAP purposes before July 1 NMC kicks in for picks to MTL who misses out on Stastny and Tavares but still desperately need a C while whomever they draft develops over the next few years.

It makes sense for Buffalo. They move out a guy who doesn't want to be there in ROR and get a top flight Defencemen that will help them win now or they flip him for other needs.

I like the Byf trade. Just favors Winnipeg a bit more.

I believe Calgary want to keep Andersson. He is going to play more this year and get a real chance.

And Montreal just wont do that... They will keep as many picks as possible. Then they can sign free agents or take cap dumps as part of their rebuild if needed.

MTL absolutely does that. They take two "lottery tickets" in a 2nd and 4th and turn them into AT WORST a good 3rd line C and at best a Solid #2C (likely #1C on MTL though) who has term. Everyone overvalues draft picks after the 1st 20 picks. It becomes about a 50/50 chance of a player drafted from 20-30 of being an NHLer and about a 5% chance they're top 9 fwd or top 4 D. After #30 those chances PLUMET greatly of the player ever being even a 4th liner.

They definitely want ROR, that rumor has been twisted beyond belief at that point. At no point did either side demand a trade. The only reason Buffalo moves ROR is if it makes sense
