Why not add 500K to Nylander's deal and lock him up for 8?

The Leafs have both cap room, a whole at the 4C and a bit of a stop-gag (not good enough) defense corp to compete with some of the bigger boys, especially in the East. I hope they sign Mark Letestu to a one year deal to shore up the first issue. Still unclear as to what they will to mold and shape their D into more of a force.

Because he not worth that kind of money. He hasn't shown enough and the Leafs would better off to bridge him and then move him for a D.

That is insane. Nylander is one of the best 5v5 players in the league at the age of 22. He may not have shown enough to warrant 7 million now but he will likely by this season. And getting him locked in for 8 years will provide a lot of long term cost certainty. Moving him for defensive help will be a huge overpayment to fix a perceived flaw in the lineup that may only be a short term problem since the Leafs have several young cheap RHD coming up in the system.

If you think he worth more than guys like Pastrnak or Schiefele, you're out of your mind.
