Description
Toronto retools their defense by trading Nylander. Brodin is controlled for 3 more seasons near the same AAV as Gardiner. Dumba will likely end up cheaper than Nylander, but may not sign for 7 years, likely 5 or 6. I am not 100% sure on the picks or prospects involved. I could see lesser picks being exchanged, or perhaps Toronto would have to throw in a a prospect like Andrew Nielsen. I have also wondered about a scenario to send Jason Zucker to Toronto, but maybe that is another discussion. Let me know what you think!

Seems like certainly an interesting deal, though I don't think Nylander is going anywhere, anytime soon.

From MN PoV:
Dumba for Nylander is fine.
1st for a 1st. MN is more likely to miss the Playoffs/finish lower in the standings, so no thanks.
Brodin for Gardiner. The conversation ends.

Although I like the concept, I think there's too many big pieces involved.

Agree with the comment below. Dumba/Nylander exchange is fine, but I'd rather keep MIN's pick and would rather have Brodin than Gardiner.

Food for thought. If I were Toronto, the trade I would love is Gardiner and a first and a defense prospect for Brodin, period. But I suspect that the Minnesota guys would all decline. (And note that another $4M cap hit would almost certainly require Toronto to trade Nylander or Zaitsev or Andersen.)
