Description
June 2019, week before the draft. Oilers have missed the playoffs again. Talbot and Koskinen both coming off disappointing seasons in net, both are allowed to walk away as UFAs. Price has a good rebound year in 2018-19, but new GM in MTL decides it's time to move on with a true rebuild. Oilers put together the best package and a deal comes together.

Oil unloads the Lucic contract, and now has McDavid-Draisatl-Nurse-Klefbom-Price as their core for the 5 years, with most of the good supporting parts still in place.

There's no way in hell Edmonton ever gives up Bouchard. Even if it meant saving the world from certain doom: they've been longing for a capable, offensive, potentially top-pairing RHD since before the day I was born. There's just no fathomable way they ever move him.

Nevermind that Edmonton could never afford Price either. You'd be looking at $30.5M tied up in three players. It's just not possible.

Isn’t the cap hit getting to 13 million now or did I read that wrong, I think oil should attempt another buy low on a back up or two and something sticks maybe edm kid Comrie from jets or somebody closer to making an impact or grab an old timer like they did with roloson in 07 so maybe rinne is out in Nashville and has a few more miles I think either is better than 13 million price

Another year of watching Lucic drag himself around may help change your mind. With the Price-Lucic trade-off you could look at it as getting Price at a net cost of $4.5M per year for the next 5 years.
However I know what you mean, it would be very hard to let go a prospect like Bouchard. Let's hope Talbot has a good year and earns a new contract.

No they don't. They're getting rid of a HORRIFIC contract and getting multiple significant assets in return. Price has negative value with that deal much like Lucic to a slightly lesser extent (way better player, way more money). His inconsistency really torpedoes his value
