Description
This scenario is exploiting Toronto Maple Leafs who will likely be pressed to the salary cap and places offer sheets to gain a much needed Right Winger to play top line minutes for New Jersey. In collateral to the offer sheet scenario, New Jersey would have to give up their 1st and 3rd round draft picks for the 2019 or 2020 drafts (depending on the year of the offer sheet for either Nylander: 2018 RFA or Marner: 2019 RFA). In either case, New Jersey adds a Right Winger to their core offense.

The Draft picks have to be your own.

You could not do it this year, Marner would work, however you would be doing Toronto a huge favor to set the price for Marner and/or Nylander at 6.1m

They should both be North of 6.5m - likely more. I'd guess Nylander wants at least what Pastrnak got, plus inflation. Marner (IMO) should and will get more.

I'd guess neither player would accept the offer sheet.

That being said, couldn't the 3rd round pick be the NJD 2020 pick instead of the ANA 2019 pick (pending only for Nylander)?

They need to be your picks in the next draft.

players have to sign the offer sheets to be of any use. nylander and marner don't even look at those offer sheets. why do you think the leafs can't offer their own rfas reasonable contracts?
