Description
hmmm...Habs need left D badly for now and for the future. Anaheim has more defense than they know what to do with.

Larsson is a nice fit for the Habs future needs. Shaw and Byron should provide an offensive upgrade for a playoff push. I like Patrick Eaves but his best days are behind him. Maybe he'd be willing to spend his last few golden years in Hab-Land, to help the cap hits balance out.

Assuming the Devils are on the playoff bubble, UFA's Plekanec and Benn can provide some low-cost and low-risk depth for a playoff push.

That's a fair deal for Benn/Plekanec. Benn makes some sense for Jersey if Mueller or Lovejoy struggle, but Plekanec does not make sense, as they have tons of bottom six Cs. Good idea, but you might need to break it up a little.

I don't like that trade for ANA, especially because Eaves is fully healthy this year. They'd probably enjoy Plekanec for a 3rd; they should not, however, use a very interesting D prospect to get the 3C they need. It'd make some sense if Larsson doesn't take a step forward, but it's not time to give up on him yet.

I'm assuming both Eaves and Shaw will be healthy. A 26-year old Shaw will outplay Eaves over the next few years. And Byron is not a 4th liner, he's scored 20 goals each of last 2 years on a weak team. I threw in a 3rd round pick to sweeten it up, but it sounds like you're pretty high on Larsson so it won't make a difference to you.

Thanks for the feed back though. Ducks have good looking team again this year.

Good feedback, thanks. The way I'm looking at it is that Anaheim's window to win is next 2 years or so. They already have very strong top 4 D-men to cover that window. Once Perry, Getzlaf and Kesler are done in a couple years, their cup window will be less likely unless guys like Sam Steel really take off quickly. So this is more of a "win-now" move by adding a combined 25-35 goals in Shaw-Byron and more speed for playoff runs over the next couple years at moderate cost. Shaw's a pretty good center as well, could be the 3C if needed.

I added a 3rd round draft pick from the Habs to sweeten the deal.

Do MTL fans actually think Shaw is good?
