I wouldn’t trade Wilson. It’s easy to forget how important he is bc he’s not playing right now. And Imo oilers would cut the middle man and just make that’s trade themselves. Like the det trade tho esp if caps won’t play bowey
Cool. If he goes to Edmonton to develop, the Caps can sign Svechnikov at the league minimum in five years!
What is Nail Yakupov up to these days, anyway?
I think if Carolina talks to Edmonton directly about Puljujarvi, the asking price is Pesce, who could also get they Nylander, but whom they are better off keeping. The only way those two work it out one to one is if Edmonton gets desperate and offers Pulju and a good defenseman for Justin Faulk, just for the sake of having a right handed shot, at which point Edmonton's defense gets worse, and they miss the playoffs.
Wilson and Puljujarvi both remind me of Keith Tkachuk in the way that they can cycle the puck on their own, make brilliant passes, and shove defensemen out of the way to get to a rebound. But that's based on watching Wilson in the SCF and Puljujarvi in the WJHC. Svechnikov could be another Kuznetsov, but again, that's based on watching tape in juniors. It doesn't always translate. His odds of making the jump go up if he's playing and practicing with more guys who speak his language and can teach him things, rather than just Zykov, some Finns, a Czech guy, and a bunch of Americans in Carolina. But I really genuinely think the Caps can afford to wait on this. They should make their interest known, wait, and not worry about it. At the deadline, if Washington has someone the Hurricanes think really helps them make some noise in the playoffs, great. Work something out.
But if Washington's only options for RW on their top line are Wilson, Oshie, Jaskin, Burakovsky, Vrana.....
