Says Nylander will provide "top line star caliber minutes for years to come". And to get that all its going to cost is a 23 year old right handed defenceman who can't make the Rangers awful lineup, Zuccarello who is a clear drop off from Nylander and is also 31 compared to 22 (Nylander's age) and a 2nd round pick.

So you are saying that Pionk "Can't crack the lineup..." he, as well as the other ranger dmen, are on a rotation of 8 dmen and he was scratched simply because it was his turn to sit for a game. He is shaping up to be a very consistent 22 minute a night top 4 dman and has shown explosive skating skills and extremely good advanced stats, despite being part of a awful rangers team. As far as your assessment of Zucc, He is a heart and soul player who puts up the SAME type of numbers as nylander and has veteran experience needed for the playoffs. The rangers only benefit from this trade because they are going in a different direction from the leafs. The 2nd rounder by the way is conditional and becomes a 1st if the lightning win the cup.

If we are looking at this from a point system and assuming 100pts = a late 1st rounder:
Zucc = 115pts
Pionk = 70pts
conditional 2nd = 50pts
total = 235pts

Nylander = 200pts
3rd rounder = 30pts
total = 230pts

The value is pretty equal if you ask me....
