I actually like this trade even more than the Jost trade. I'm all for trading Johansen and Burakovsky with a return like that.

Detroit isn't trading Athanasiou. Detroit is rebuilding and Larkin, Mantha, AA, Bertuzzi, Rasmussen and Cholowski are the core of the rebuild.

Jensen was on the list last season

I'm not sure Rasmussen is still on it. On it or not I don't see them trading him this season. By the time Detroit decided they wanted to send him back for his final year of juniors it was too late and it would have eaten a year off his contract, because he had eligibility Juniors left he hasn't been able to go to down to the AHL. The situation is messed up and its management's fault. You'd figure the front office of a NHL team wouldn't let something like this happen.

Yeah sorry but that doesn't get you Athanasiou, He's not available period. He's a core piece according to Holland and wont get moved unless it's massive overpayment.

Wait. You were rebuilding around a 28 year old UFA defenseman who averaged 17 minutes a night before this year, with 22 career points? Good plan. smile Maybe the Caps should rebuild around Michal Kempny some day. awesome face

Burakovsky has thirty more NHL points than Athanasiou and is half a year younger. One for one, that's an overpayment. AA has 0.20 points/game in the playoffs, totaling one points in five games. Burakovsky has 0.33, with 16 points in 49 games, including three multiple goal games, one of which kicked off a streak of six points in six games that won the Caps a Stanley Cup. There's your MASSIVE overpayment.

AA had a great start this year and Burakovsky had an awful one, due to a comination of tougher minutes, a Cup hangover, and a broken wrist. Burakovsky's got three goals this week. He's back. He's playing 12.0% tougher zone starts than AA this year. AA is an alleged center who wins one out of every three faceoffs and doesn't play in the defensive zone if his coaches can help it. Burakovsky is a two-way wing with more points and a Cup ring.

Lucas Johansen is the only person in this conversation who is actually not being traded this year.

Jensen was on the untouchable list last season. But all this doesn't matter AA isn't going to be traded. If Burakovsky is so good why does all most every trade proposed by caps fans have Bura on it? It's like caps fans can't get rid of him fast enough.
