Description
Habs receive some help on the RW with Frk. Feel free to argue Detroit trade but idea is bringing in Green makes the Habs D more mobile combined with the addition of Maatta. I feel Maatta could play really well with Weber, improvement on Mete, then pairing two former Caps together. It also gives MTL the option of letting Green walk in free agency and possibly picking up John Carlson. The Buffalo trade gives the Sabres a left winger meanwhile giving MTL the centre they need.

Not a Habs fan just a thought. Honestly I think it should be a better prospect MTL sends back but the firsts you have to realize how little Pittsburgh values them and how little they are worth. They traded Klim Kostin for Ryan Reaves. Both these firsts will likely be 25-31 range.

Maata is a young top 4 defenceman on a beautiful contract + Sprong a top6 forward prospect for Patches is my problem.
Who says Sprong cant score 20-25goals already.

The two first rounders are completetly extra.
As Pitts, I wouldnt trade Sprong+Maata for Patches.

How about this then. Take out Hagelin and Sprong so Maatta, and two firsts?

Maata for Patches 1 for 1 might not even sway Pittsburg. Leafs traded Kessel to Pitts and retained salary and they wouldn't give up Maata for Kessel.

Kessels contract was too big for PIT to handle, even today with the salary retention it's still tough on the Pens, even though Kessel at $6.8 is fair value.

If I remember correctly, When TOR traded Kessel, everyone got the feeling that the deal could of been just Maatta + 1st, but the Leafs decided to go after Kapanen (the key piece in the deal) and Harrington (before he was a bust, Pens valued him really high and TOR fans thought he was going to be a top4 stud lol) along with more picks.

So I'm pretty sure it was less PIT not wanting to give up Maatta, and more TOR wanting Kapanen but PIT not wanting to give up both, so there was a compromise.

You could also add everyone knew Kessel wanted out of Leaf land (which brings down value), Patches as far as we know, is happy where he is.

going back to this trade, taking Hagelin's $4mil cap hit next year is worth a PIT 1st rd pick (between 25-31 overall) by itself. MTL would just have the luxury of flipping him by retaining salary (something the Pens can't do), because I can see teams willing to take a risk with Hagelin at $2mil cap hit.

JR would fleece MB. I’m not even trading Maatta 1 for 1 for Patches, he’s our best D right now. Sprong+Lauzon+2nd is max I go.

That wasn't even a Habs fan and we're not overvaluing him.... This trade is however too much, I agree.

Besides that though, this is what is wrong with people on this site: "Who says Sprong cant score 20-25 goals already."

Yeah maybe he can. Maybe he can't. But you know what Pacioretty is? Tied for 4th in the entire NHL over the past 7 years in goal scoring. Then compound that, with the fact that he didn't get to play guys Like Backstrom (Ovechkin), Thornton (Pavelski), Getzlaf (Perry) etc.........No, he had David Desharnais for most of his career. Plekanec for a bit and Galchenyuk for 1 year....... Oh and a defensive minded coach to boot....

Yeah Sprong may be a good future player, but he also may be dud (Or just nothing that special). Until he proves it in the NHL he is nothing more than a prospect. Pacioretty however outproduced players you would consider superstars.

The worst part about this site is, people think they are clever and that they're secretly fleecing other teams.........If Pacioretty was on your team, you'd be bitching and complaining about how bad these offers are to. Because you're an outside perspective with an axe to grind, who cares, right?
