Well they would have drafted someone in the 2015. Eichel? And Draisaitl wouldn't have been worth nearly that much in his new contract.

If they would have picked 3rd (where they were slotted without the lottery) it would have been a choice between Strome (3rd), Hanifin(5th) , and Marner (4th). IIRC that was the pre-draft rankings after McDavid/Eichel.

But on the bright side they would have 2 of the Strome brothers, and probably draft the 3rd brother in last year's draft.

Then they need to trade for the 3 Staals, and get the 3 Subbans. Screw it just get all "S" last names. Make announcers head's explode or tongues fall off.

Speaker of announcers exploding... Leaf TV announcer Paul Rominiuk (who shouldn't be a play by play guy) announced during the Phoenix game that Jeff Chychrum father (a former NHLer) had died years ago in a car accident. I was surprised cause I hadn't heard of this, and I though I saw Jeff's dad on TV during his draft. Anyway 15 minutes goes by, and then Paul says he made mistake, he was thinking of former Carolina Hurricane Steve Chaisson who had died in a car accident....what 15 years ago.

Yeah if the lottery balls didn't bounce EDM's way they'd have taken Hanifin or Strome.

This was the last year that only the top pick was won in a lottery, next season (Matthews year) the top 3 picks were awarded via lottery
