That caps trade is laughable. No need for an overpaid Petry and they will not give up their first rounder on a rental this year. MacLellan wants to build for a strong future as well as keep a contender now. Petry adds nothing to the team.

That Blues trade is real bad too. They don’t need Shaw nor do they want to pay him that awful contract.

Plekanec is a 4c at this point. You’re not getting a 2nd for him from a team currently out of the playoff picture, let alone a team at the top of the league. He adds nothing to the pens. Adding niemi is awful.

Good luck getting that return from Carolina. They love their defensemen and they aren’t in a position where they need to go out and get a guy like Pacioretty. If they do want him, they’re not giving you two of their top d prospects.

New York needs defense, but they’ll probably look at other options than the Alzner who is signed to five years overpaid.

Caps say no, for a lot of reasons. For starters, we aren't in a position where trading high draft picks makes a ton of sense. Our prospect pool is slim enough as is. Second, if we take on the contract of Petry, it's basically saying that we won't be able to bring back John Carlson, which we desperately need to do. I'd much rather have Carlson and my first round pick than Petry. Maybe Petry becomes an option for us if we fail to resign Carlson, but not at this point, and not for a first round pick either.

I also doubt that St. Louis or Carolina accept those deals.

Yes STL declines and then goes back to watching 2016 Andrew Shaw meltdown highlights for fun

to paraphrase the above comments, no team can rid themselves of awful contracts without taking money back in a trade or adding adding sweeteners to the trade. shaw, petry, alzner are long term habs thanks to MB

If you can get a 1st round pick for Petry, you are an excellent GM.

Are you kidding bro? Carilona would take this deal and run. Carolina has faulk, hanifin, pesce and slavin...I don't think they really need fleury that already seems to be a bust. Roy is a B prospect and finally a second .

I'm sure that bergwvin is asking for bean, roy and a first round pick.
