From a Toronto viewpoint, I actually think that going after JVR would be a great move for the Devils, but you will be in tough at the level and years you suggest! (If leaving Toronto try $7M x 7 years) As far as Zajac is concerned, he is proven to be a solid contributor, but on his current deal through age 36, Toronto has no fit, and therefore no interest. Shouldn't be much of an issue moving him if all you are after is a pick.

Better hope the young guns don't hit at most half of their bonuses because if they do...enjoy the overage penalties as you're CAP space is nearly HALF of the potential bonuses. Other than that, NJ would be looking pretty good for the next 7 years or so!

I would keep Hall with JT

EDIT: NVM, I love the kids with Hall.
Those top 2 lines are pretty sick
and What if they retained on Zajac?
You still need a #1 LD maybe your MoJo move can be added to to get Shea Theodore?
You have Santini on the left, why?

Because Carlson Vatanen and Severson take up the Right side.

citing Oshie, Marchand, Atkinson, Hoffman (maybe even Lucic, Ladd and Eriksson) as comparatives I'd be seriously surprised if his cap hit exceeds 6,25M. I'd even say 6M max would be a rational number for him.

Carlson won't be making $8M per season, and I wouldn't expect JVR to hit $7M either. if JT hits the open market, I could see somebody paying him $12M if it means getting him.

If that becomes a problem, Devils could look to move Andy Greene, even though he wears the C.

Yeah I think the contracts I gave for all three of Carlson, JVR, and Tavares seem pretty fair. Definitely agree on a team paying 12M to get Tavares. Maybe he chooses 11 mil to stay in Metro area on a team with a brighter future. (Yes I think NJD has a much brighter future than NYI)

I think Jersey boy Carlson can be got for a little less, especially if it's a 7 year deal. JVR, I think he might be a Ranger, but again he's a Jersey boy and the Devils are definitely in the running. My opinion, the Leafs are out of the running. I could see Jersey being in the running for JT also.
But those trades. Johanssen with one year of his contract isn't getting all that. Gee Vegas has cap space, they could be in the running for UFAs and not giving up picks. And Leafs would rather spend 5.75m on other guys rather than the Zajac, especially at that trading price.

If there's a bidding war on all 3 those numbers could happen, I can see both Van Riemsdyke and Carlson getting something in the neighborhood of 7 years $49 million at the very least.

Pal, If the cap goes to $80M, Wash will have room to throw it at JC, now does he want to stay is the better question? Probably. Vegas has no reason to dump their 1st with the year they are having I agree, UFAs to round out team. As I posted retaining a little on TZ. He's overpaid a little and under appreciated. He is not flashy but he keeps other teams off the board, along with his FOs and defensive game. Not pretty but needed.
I could see a bid war for all of those players and we still do not have a #1 LD after all this!
Interesting time to be a Devs fan.

Smitty426. Interesting time indeed. And really, it came on all of a sudden. For the good of the Devils, and their fans, hoping that the Devils make the playoffs, and can continue the streak. What a shame if it's the Rangers this miss outsmile
