Moving one mistake contract to sign another one with Carlson? Doesn't Chicago learn from handing out these big deals?

How is Carlson a mistake? Guy leads all Defensemen in points?

hawks this offseason need to move seabrook, and make a top 6 move. a pacioretty/JVR/ etc. type of guy on that top 6, make schmaltz a 2C secure a 3C whether by free agency, trade or prospect pool, i like the carlson signing, but need to make another D move once seabrook is gone.

Carlson is 100 times better than Seabrook.

The mistake is locking up another defense-man for $7 mil that continues to suck the life out of your roster by over paying for 5 players and hoping every one else will play for entry level contracts. There's not many teams that would offer to bail out Chicago and take some of these awful contracts off their hands.

I 100% disagree. If in Sept. 2019 we don't get a compliance buyout...then you trade him. Everyone trashes on him anyways...maybe rightfully so. I'm not here saying he's back, but to give up meaningful assets right now to just to possibly wait 1 year. it's short sighted at best...ESPECIALLY if the cap is going up to $80M AND we should be able to trade Hossa much easier. It's just 1 year, then trade him.

I'm for Carlson. He'd drive the PP and would allow Keith to focus his minutes @ 5V5. His signing could have nice ripple effects to the whole team. With that said Dumouliln???? Why do the Hawks want $30M in cap hit for their Dmen? That's way too much money. Every team has to trust their young talent at some point. Keep Forsling, see what Rutta wants. Sign Henri and maybe Chad Krys. just too much money on D.

i understand where you are trying to get at with seabrook, but it is no guarentee that a buyout agreement like that will be in effect for the next CBA kicking in. Ya dumoulin shouldn't be signed. we have D prospects coming in. Seabrook has played well overall this year, but he isn't going to get any better. I think its best for the hawks to make sure they can trade him now coming off a better season so we may get away with giving up less to get rid of him.

What do they trade Anisimov for then?

DK0017. That's a good question. I think the Hawks are better with Anisimov on the team. If they're 5-7 points out of the 2nd wild card in a pack of teams...then I'd think about trading him away, but let's be clear that we don't need to (and can't) solve every problem with 1 trade. For this question though, let's stay with PIT (this assumes they're still in the hunt.) He plays both center and wing and despite being out for a two weeks he's still 3rd on the team in goals. He's a 200 foot player for sure. Clearly not saying he's Toews/Crosby/etc... but AA does play both ways. Again, not saying he's going to be PIT's #2C...he is an #2 center for $4.5M a year with 3.5 more years on his deal. Pretty nice contract for a #2C. I'd prefer prospects and picks over Dumoulin. What specifically??? well rentals can go for a 1st round pick @ the TDL so a 3.5 year #2C @ $4.5M....much more. SOLID A prospect and a 1st. I do think other people on here will take issue with this...which is fine. AA is a hockey player that does all the dirty work. He allows guys like Kane and Panarin to NOT have to play defense. He goes hard to the net and he's a big factor in their success. I don't think Schmaltz is ready for the #2C and I'm only about 50/50 that he'll ever be a center.
