toss up on Skille, he could sign an extension or be trade deadline bait, but if he was traded, you would have to do better than Plotnikov (he has little to no value with the way he has played this season)

That's an interesting Letang trade. Really a long term salary dump by the Pens. IMO Winnipeg wouldn't go for it due to Letang's contract/health and possible declining play in future years. Is there another team that might bite though?
The Leaf trade, if the Leafs thought there was at least one of the players coming back that could be a good NHLer they might go for it. Somehow I think the Leafs believe there is better value for these two players in separate deals.

Letang having injuries doesn't make him a salary dump. Lmao. And WPG doesn't get a cost-controlled #1 RHD, Norris candidate, puck-moving, point producer for an UFA to be. Injury history or not. To think that they would turn that down is ludicrous.

Russian factor. Let me put it another way. Pittsburg. Why would they make the deal....Relieve themselves of Letang's long term contract at 7.25 and hopefully spend it wisely maybe getting other UFAs with better value next summer.
Winnipeg, why wouldn't they make the deal. They could get better value from a trade for Byf/Lowry for a 4th round pick....and believe they could spend 7.25m better than on Letang.
So, I don't think turning down the trade is ludicrous. You're right if Winnipeg believes they are STILL getting a cost controlled # 1 RHD, Norris candidate, puck-moving, point producer, the it would be a good deal for Winnipeg and not so much Pittsburg.

Nailed it.

Letang is a boss but unfortunately his health issues and contract scare GM's. He is worth more to the Pens than to any other team due to this fact.

Byf needs to be resigned... That fucks up this whole trade. No team is going to part ways with anything big to get a guy that isn't secured. Nowadays for a trade to happen the contracts have to match up. Byf is asking for a contract very similar to Letang's so it makes no sense short or long term. Not to mention Letang's NTC cause who wants to go to WPG...
