Omg. Plekanec isn’t getting you a 1st let alone a 1st and 3rd. Jesus, please stop making worse and worse trades in Montreal’s favor, Habs fans. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!

Sorry boy, but that's his value. If Hanzal was worth a 1st round pick, plus a 2nd round pick plus a conditional 4th round pick, then plekanec is for sure worth a 1st round and a 3rd. Vermette was also trade for a 1st pick and a d-man No. 6-7-8. That's the market for those type of player.

Hanzal came off a 40+ point season in just 64 games and was on pace for the same production. Not to mention had gotten hot the month before he was traded. Plekanec is coming off of 28 points in 78 games and is on pace to score even less goals this season. The wild also got other pieces in that trade including a 4th rd pick and a 4th liner. And the 1st was for an extremely weak draft. Hanzal scored like a 2nd liner, Plekanec scores like a really good 4th liner. Plekanec is on a horrible contract and while you are retaining half his cap hit, 3 million for someone who is on pace to not even get 9 goals is pretty bad. Not to mention he would be a 4th liner on the blue jackets.
So no that’s not even close to his value.

And as for Vermette. He had 35 points before his trade and was just off a 45 point season. Oh and is a right handed center, that’s great on faceoffs, can play all 3 forward spots, and can play up and down the lineup. Oh and is a solid leader.

This was the funniest justification of a bad trade that I've seen today. You've got a 35 year old guy, with a horrible contract (regardless of whether you cut it in half or not), who hasn't been even remotely good in a couple of seasons, and you think that you can get a 1st AND a 3rd?!?!

I'd argue that the Burrows trade last year would probably something far more comparable (Yes, I get that one is a winger and one is a center). Similar production. The Canucks got a 2nd rounder for him (And with the way Dahlen has played, they look dumb for even moving that asset). Ottawa also saw him as a guy that would go out, play gritty hockey, be a leader, and they wanted him for the next couple of years as well (Hence the extension). Does Pleks bring anything to the table that would justify trading even a second rounder for?

Plek for a 2nd would be good, but that's likely the most I would expect. The one thing he does have going for him is his Defense. If I recall correctly, he has something like 9-10GA while on the ice 5v5 for the season, but all he does is play against the opposing teams top lines. He is about 53-54% FOs, and is on pace for 30ish pts. Basically, he's the guy you want on the ice when your up a goal with a couple minutes left to play.

Agreed. A 1st might be pushing it even with retention. A 2nd is fair value for Pleks at this point.

Would love for the Islanders to make that trade. Don't know if the Habs would though.
