What it might really take to get PLD to MTL

Created by: Campa96
Team: 2017-18 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 16, 2018
Published: Jan. 16, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Columbus is thin at center, so the only way they trade PLD is if they get more centers in return. They receive a offensively gifted second-line center in Galchenyuk, a top prospect who projects to be a No.2 center and a Top-10 pick. Still, if they think Dubois can be their No.1 center, this package would not be enough and the only way he is moved is if teams REALLY overpay for him.

And to be honest, I think Montreal shouldn't do this trade either. It weakens their depth and removes two of the best prospects (Poehling and the player chosen with the Top-10 pick) from a farm system that is so devoid of talent.

I think their might be something to do with this trade without the 1st rd pick from this summer's draft. A 30 goal scorer and a top prospect like Poehling is alot to give up. You should be close to getting into PLD territory. A top 10 pick in the upcoming draft if a little much to be added, depending where the pick ends up. I would protect the pick with "top 5" status. I think any of the top 5 players in the this years draft are going to be immediate roster players that will contribute (Dahlin, Boqvist, Zadina, Svechnikov, Tkachuk). There are still good players in the draft following these 5, but the quality does drop a little.

what about something like Galchenyuk, Plekanec (3m$ retained) and Poehling

for

PLD?

It gives them a center in Plekanec that can help them win faceoffs (something they've lacked) and it's also something that gives them a chance to win now. Poehling assures them they have something down the line to help them.

I don't see any trade on here so you might be editing it. I do like your description where you claim to be offering a top 10 1st your 1st round pick from last season Peopling and Galchunyuk. That seems like more than what they would need to make that deal so it's refreshing to see this coming from Montreal. I don't think CBJ does this however, as they need a #1 C and none of these assets would replace trading one if they think he will grow into one.

As is, I don't think Montreal could make that trade unless they end up with a first-round pick that's in the top 10. Now the question comes: if Dubois's name was MacDonald.....

That seems like a massive overpay. PLD has looked real good but he has played 46 games. If you're gonna give a package like that it better be for an established talent

If MTL did this, I would puke in my mouth a bit....... But I agree it would take an over pay to get him from CLB. This beyond overpay though. this is creeping into true #1 center territory. PLD is not quite there yet and may never be.
