Just for the record, are you a Habs fan or CAR fan?

Cant see Hanifin leaving CAR unless there is another similarily talented defender going back...
And while i like the idea of a MTL rebuild, made evident by the 60+ goals that are leaving town, i dont see the current Habs management making a deal of this magnitude.
It terms of straight value i do think its close tho.

No, the value is there no doubt. But it's a sideways move for a team that wants to win now like your title says.
It doesn't make sense for them to give up their best D on the roster . (Personally I think Jake Bean is gonna be better than all of them.)
My philosophy is that offense starts from defense that needs to distribute the puck cleanly up to the forwards. That's the main reason IMO the Habs are struggling this year.

If CAR is losing their best puck moving D, then perhaps Pacioretty and Galchenyuk won't be as effective.

Also Ron Francis has stated that he's not trading any roster players to improve on other positions.

If you want to trade with CAR you'll only be able to get prospects, and IMO they have one of the best prospect pool in league. Go after Bean...he'll be worth it in 3 yrs

I see them going after Galchenyuk if anything, since he has potential at center.

i'd say since Roy is UFA the value isnt there for montreal without term
i'd want Rask or Lindholm someone with term or rights to retain .

i'd do Chucky , Patches and Juulsen(giving CAR 2 youth pieces) for Lindholm , Fleury and Chelios
we give up 2 former 1st round picks as does CAR , they get a bottom pair D to fill the void(chelios is just because he's a pending UFA and doubtful to get another 1 year deal for a career AHL'er )

CAR gets 2 thirty goal scorers who did it together both get 2 goals a piece the same game to hit the milestone no less
give them a guy like jordan staal between them or given them someone like Aho to take secondary faceoffs for Chucky when DZ faceoffs come up

Nicolas Roy isn't UFA, he's 20, he was at WJC last year.

Carolina is losing the best asset in the deal (Hannifin). I don't think this is an upgrade.
