Hard Work In Buffalo

Created by: FryesLeapMaine
Team: 2018-19 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 19, 2018
Published: Jan. 19, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Lineup set is a Value Chart. It's not necessarily who would play this year, but instead its who's more valuable going forward.

When making this mock I realized that Buffalo is weak on both the right sides. If they play Reinhart at RW then they are alright, but if not they don't have a ton of talent there considering Pominville will be gone in a year. As for the defense, it's total crap after Ristolainen. With the LA Trade and adding Jett Woo, they look good for the future. Why not pick up Hjalmarsson in exchange for Bogosian? It looks like a move that would help both teams.

Thanks for reading this.

Trades
1.
BUF
  1. Amadio, Michael
  2. Lewis, Trevor
Additional Details:
2018 1st round draft pick
RFA Erik Cernak (RHD)

Buffalo is trying to get 4 assets for Kane.... I think that could go wrong if they get lesser assets like this. Amadio is scoring well in the AHL. Lewis is a solid NHLer. Cernak was a 2nd rounder and is a right handed defenseman.
LAK
    Rental Evander Kane

LA Goes all in on Kane to win another CUP. They could still be considered a Dynasty if they win one this year or maybe even next season. I think that's what they are going after.
    2.
    ARI
    1. Bogosian, Zach
    2. 2019 3rd round pick (BUF)
    Additional Details:
Bogosian is worse than Hjalmarsson right now so the pick gets added. Both players aren't working out so it's a good flip to obtain fresh starts and try to reboot to when they were good.
    3.
    BUF
    1. Puljujärvi, Jesse
    Additional Details:
Buffalo gives up on Reinhart and goes for some new blood. Puljujarvi could end up a top end player and Reinhart isn't going to become that unless he gets to go somewhere else and have a fresh start.
    EDM
    1. Reinhart, Sam
    Additional Details:
Chiarelli is famous for trading away future assets for help right now. I think Reinhart will be the better player next season if these 2 were traded, but Puljujarvi probably ends up better 3 years from now.
    4.
    BUF
    1. Mueller, Mirco
    2. 2019 4th round pick (NJD)
    Additional Details:
Buffalo gets a young prospect who was a 1st rounder and a mid to late pick. They bet on Mueller being a contributor.
    NJD
    1. Beaulieu, Nathan
    Additional Details:
New Jersey might lose John Moore. If they do they should go after someone like Beaulieu.
    5.
    BUF
    1. Balcers, Rūdolfs
    2. 2019 5th round pick (SJS)
    Additional Details:
Buffalo takes what they can get for Girgensons. He's not going to score enough to be a constant 3rd liner. Balcers is a scoring LW prospect where the team is light on right now with my trades. If he pans out they have a better LW setup.
    SJS
    1. Girgensons, Zemgus
    Additional Details:
San Jose could use a bottom 6 defensive specialist. Especially at this price.

Puljujarvi is already the better player. He has 11 pts in 29 games, Reinhart has 15 in 45... in his 4th NHL season. Puljujarvi could end up matching Sammy's point total from his rookie season... I'm not an EDM scout so I can't say what their valuation of Reinhart is, but I can almost guarantee they like what they see in PoolParty more.

Beaulieu was recently acquired for a 3rd round pick. Mueller was recently acquired for a 2nd and a 3rd... not sure if you have the value right in that trade.

Just curious why you'd pick Kasdorf over Ullmark. Kasdorf played one NHL game and looked awful in it. Ullmark's already better and will be better. Also liked how you picked Svechnikov instead of Dahlin. It made it interesting, and frankly, more realistic, because as we all know, Edmonton will inevitably get the first overall pick.

Pretty unfair to call this Reinharts 4th NHL season and call it Puljajarvi's rookie year. Reinhart played 9 games as an 18 year old.

Reinharts year 19 season he had 42 points (23 goals) and didn't get sent to play in the minors. Puljajrvi has 11 points in 29 games or 31 points over 82 games (reinhart played 79 that year).

You're right, but in any case, I think Reinhart is trending down and Poolparty is trending up. Could be a nice change in scenery for Reinhart and he could show why he was picked 2nd overall, but it seems like an unnecessary risk for EDM, that's all.

Yeah I didn't delve that far into it to show their total depth chart as it's not the team I follow. That'd be a much larger wager than I was willing to bid because I'd surely have some guys out of place if I went all in. I clearly messed some stuff up as I picked a prospect that wasn't even on the team anymore. I was just attempting to move some pieces around in realistic trades with reasoning behind them in order to fairly build a team more capable of winning.

I can't believe no-one has referenced the Bogosian trade.... that was the main point to be made in this maneuvering: A way to get out of the contract while getting a surprise back. Not sure what Hjalmarsson will be, but even if he was the same or worse his contract is up sooner.

I never get this much feedback on any of my mocks, this is literally the worst one I've made and it's got the most action. Seems like the Carrot and the Stick, but they are in the opposite direction.

I liked the Bogosian trade FWIW
