This is interesting... what do you propose we would do in the offseason to make room for tkachuk, Bennett, ferland raises?? Stone goes obviously and Brouwer, but what do you do with frolik/backlund???

Not even ballpark for what it would take to get Montreal to move Drouin after half a season. It would take a comparable center for them to even consider it.

Yea I considered that too but with the cap going up I think this is plausible. I believe that if ferland continues on this pace, scores 30 this year and possibly 30 next year he will price himself out of calgary. Brouwer you are probably looking at a buyout which will give us 3M more in space and yea deal stone. We have the luxury of our two top players locked up to very very reasonable deals, so I think with a little bit of creativity we could fit all of tkachuk bennett backs and frolik under the cap without much hassle.

Yea I agree that it won't happen cuz if it did it would make Bergevin look worse than he already does. But in a vacuum I do think the value isn't too far off.

Valamaki is a good prospect but he will wont bring in a proven young talent like drouin. maybe for matt tkachuk but i wouldn't do that if i was Calgary.

Bergevin would somehow become even less respectable if he did this deal.

I think he's basically proven he's incompetent and most likely under qualified to perform his job, but if he trades a sure fire future #1 LHD who almost everyone was raving about as being the next great defenseman, for a player who best fits as a 2nd line winger and then decides to move that 2nd line winger for a future #3 LHD he'd be the biggest idiot of all time. That would seal the deal. He'd win himself the shiniest golden medal of failure and the best part is he'd literally know that he had failed.

Montreal ownership is dumb and basically the equivalent of racist. They basically put a priority on people who can speak french, so superior and better qualified candidates who would do a better job end up getting shut out if they aren't french. I'm not saying that's the wrong way to make money, but it is the wrong way to win championships. They're just not winners anymore, they'd rather just make money and satisfy as many people who are too lazy to learn english as they can instead of get the best leaders possible league wide. If you basically limit the talent pool you can pick from by putting an emphasis on those who speak french, there's just no way you're going to survive and compete. They will rightfully traverse the Mountain going downhill instead of climbing upward towards a common goal.

It's just really sad to see this with Montreal, as I'm a Bruins fan. All the time Montreal was better than us and Montreal was what we were chasing and Montreal was the bully messing with us and putting us down. Now we've basically kicked their ass in and with Julien at the helm they've got no advantage against us. It's like when you stand up to the bully and kick his ass and then he starts crying your instinct is to feel sorry. Instead I'm just going to enjoy the time on top because at the rate they are going, we're going to troll them back for a full decade.

I don’t know what’s worse, the trade or playing Drouin on the 3rd Line.

Wasn't Sergachev a "good prospect," he brought in Drouin didn't he? If you look deeper into it Sergachev wasn't a point per game dman in the OHL, but Valimakki is above that in the WHL. The comparison is not that far off. I'm well aware that this deal won't happen but if history tells us anything it's that it's entirely plausible

Him being on the third line would make that line insanely dangerous, they already looked great every night even with hathaway in that position. So putting him on the third line isn't a demotion, it's where he fits best to give us terrific offensive depth. As for the trade, read text above.

Sergachev was not just a good prospect. He was pegged as a top 2 for a while. Even then, Montreal had to add a 2nd conditional as an insurance policy, for a player with a checkered past that was probably on his way out of Tampa eventually regardless.

Valimaki is not Sergachev, and Drouin has a fresh start in Montreal.
