It is so hilarious to me all these Price offers before his contract even starts.

I don't think Blues are actually interested. But if there was.

Yeah far chance that Marc Bergevins eats $3 million of Prices salary over the next 8 years that's $24 million in dead money that Montreal can't afford to give up.

A lot has changed over the last few months for Montreal. If they see the writing on the wall, a rebuild now while their assets are still valuable would make the rebound quicker.

Montreal is going to have to eat at least 2 mil for the duration of the contract. They can't afford to keep Price and rebuild simultaneously, which is what they desperately need to do.

Why would St. Louis want Price? they have solid goal-tending.

Montreal is one of the few teams that could throw 24M out the window over 8 years.

They probably could, Not sure why they'd want to if they're dealing Price then you're looking at a full blown rebuild there. And eating $24 million during a full blown rebuild would be crazy.

Rebuilds are the best time to eat cap... helps us reach the Cap Floor, and its not like we are going to be tight to the Ceiling. Not to mention, Montreal could use a full blown rebuild. We haven't had a #1 center since the 90s, and Bergevin is unwilling to get one through trade... There isn't one within reach in this draft, so that requires us to suck again next year at least (or sell and acquire a "maybe"). So, rebuild, or mediocre for Prices full career.

Actually based on what direction they are going, they very well could do it to return the best value back. How can MTL not afford to give that up? We have a rich owner and a fan base that always shows up, and we'd be moving Price to rebuild which means we'd be a while away from competing for a cup anyway.

Eating some of Prices salary is not the problem. Finally deciding to rebuild is. I think MB still wants just "reset" this year, trade a guy like Pacioretty and go back at it next year. Which is exactly why he should be fired. He's philosophically at the point of putting another band-aid on top of a stitch on top of a bruise on top of a broken bone. eventually you need to go see a goddamn doctor and fix the problem at the source. Enough fracking band-aid solutions.

Any situation that allows us to make roster upgrades while keeping Thomas/Thompson/Kyrou/Kostin would be a win in my opinion. Unlike some other win-now options we have, a Price trade gets you at least 4-6 years of relevancy (in theory), so it would be awesome to make that upgrade and still build the roster from the prospect pool.

Unfortunately, I think other GMs are doing their best to pry away one of those big 4 guys... but in this trade EDM would be filling a bunch of needs with their trade. To me, it's Montreal that would be hesitant.

I thought about adding Blais as well to this deal to MTL. I still think Montreal gives it heavy consideration because of RNH plus a 1st round. Allen could be a serviceable guy while they rebuild

If Blues can get RNH for that "price" than they should just keep him and not flip him to MTL.
