Bad contract swap with CGY and Hanifin!

Created by: Ktaaffe8
Team: 2017-18 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 25, 2018
Published: Jan. 25, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
2nd round pick for Hanifin may need conditions to make it a first (maybe re-signing)
Trades
1.
2.
STL
  1. Brouwer, Troy ($1,000,000 retained)
CGY
  1. Bouwmeester, Jay
Additional Details:
About the only way I can see these two players waiving their NTC. Bouw goes closer to home and where he played before. And Brouwer comes back to STL where he was loved and had success. The $1 million retained makes the overall money equal between contracts

As a flames fan I take that deal, would open up the option for us to trade Brodie for a Fwd.

Good work on the deal.

I don't like the Brouwer deal only because of his term. I do like the Hanifin deal in principle. However, Blues should hold on to Husso. Blues have goaltending issues as it is now. And I would even trade Thompson over Kyrou.

I like the deal.....of course you made the deal based on Brouwer's previous success in St Louis. Does he still hold 3.5m value for 2.5 years? Canes are in a playoff bid, I don't think they would trade Hanifan for just futures.

The CGY deal is honestly the best one I've seen on here in a long time and makes a lot of sense. Nicely done!

Yeah the Brouwer deal makes no sense since you can just simply buyout Bouwmeester and save 3.6 millions next year and only have a cap hit of 1.8 mill over the next two seasons. Much better then keeping that Browuer deal. Also believe the Leafs may take his services off your hands but he'd have to waive, but I believe a Bouwmeester/Parayko trade could be done for Gardiner/Marner Deal. Blues rid themselves of a bad contract and get a top 6 forward with loads of potential. Leafs get young big RHD top 4 D they covet and experience on the Blueline for a cup run the next two years but can handle the cap before the Matthews contract comes up.

Problem with that is then the Blues are depleted on the right side of the D. Besides, I'd rather trade Petro who has two years on his contract ahead of Parayko who has 4 more left.

You are assuming Brouwer will continue to suck. What if he rebounds? Plus buying out is not always an easy option. First off owners don't like wasted money and secondly buying out a contract is never looked at in a positive light. If you buy out a 1 year wonder that got lucky, maybe it goes over a lot more smoothly. Buyout a veteran that has been a huge contributor to your team for a long time? I don't think so. Especially when he is still serviceable.

This trade gives both teams a chance at a do over and gives both teams a player that could potentially turn it around and start playing better in a different role.

Buying out a player has to be one of those things that any GM would agree is something that needs to be done. I don't think its a good idea. OP doesn't think so. The trade works on so many levels which OP explained.

If both guys were willing (NTC) to return to a team they've played on before and had success, this is a really really well thought out trade that for once, helps everyone out equally.
