Tavares is a no go

Description
Leaf fans keep saying we can sign JT. I hate to break it to you, but we can't. Although the leafs can easy just say screw the salary cap, no one does.

I like JVR and 6 years 7 million is what he will ask for and most likely get.
Jake the Snake is a offensive defenceman in a offensive league, Kevin Shattenkirk is a good comparable for money.
Holl, Dermott, Liljegren all step into up into the fold, the first 2 we can sign to cheap deals, the latter we don't know yet.

I could be low balling the cap increase but I think I have set it right, hockey is a sport more catered to the north so massive TV deals just won't happen like they do in the NBA, NFL and MLB. However, a few cups in the south (Florida, Tampa Bay, Dallas, ect) could help view ship and make someone like FOX bit and hand out a massive TV deal which on turns means a spike in the NHL salary cap. Please leave constructive criticism for any issues you may have

I think more importantly, do the Leafs even need JT? They already have Matthews and Kadri which make a pretty darn good tandem. Sure no one would say no to JT but do they really need him? I don't think so. I think they would be better off spending a buttload of money on a stud RHD like Carlson, Doughty, Karlsson, etc.

We've heard about the a big US TV since Bettman became commish. I wouldn't count on it. A rise or fall in the Canadian dollar might be a bigger factor.
You're right about Tavares, Leafs can't fit him short term or long term. That defence looks inexperienced for 2019/20 when the Leafs might be more contenders. IMO there is not a cap or a need for JVR. Leafs can get good value elsewhere at wings, maybe even internally. Might need more help at centre and one defence position.

It looks inexperienced now, but next year I think holl and Dermott will get there chance next year for much longer than a few games with how they played this year. Plus Liljegren looks to be a good defenceman (in the AHL on a very, VERY good team). I definitely hear what ur saying, but I say next year will tell us a lot more when they get a extended look.

I think they let jvr walk. 6 million is alot for him and your going to need the money. Maybe look for a big body physical guy who fills that role in the offseason for shorter money.

Leafs are not resigning JVR. They will let him walk. Gardiner will get 5.5, Holl is not getting that much for 2 games worth of NHL experience. Same with Aaltonen. Gauthier will be 4th line C.

Also Marleau will mostly likely be traded July 2nd in 2 years. His contract was front loaded for that reason. So they have that option if needed.

Why does Marleau agree to trade, when it will be his last NHL season? He does has a NMC I would think he would like to play with a contender (the Leafs) as opposed to any other team except San Jose. Seems to just dreaming on Leafs fans part that he can be traded at 6.25m cap hit disappears.

I think once the Leafs win the cup next year, he retires and Leafs trade his cap hit. Lol
