BOS will give you 1) 1st, but we're not going to let Grabner hang over our heads all the way into the 2019 draft

This is IF we even want him... that's a big IF

I'm sure it would be contingent on a package deal including McDonagh and the price of McDonagh would need to be compliant with BOS demands
      1) No current roster pieces
      2) Reasonable offer
      3) If for multiple 1st round picks at least one of those picks are conditional to him resigning in Boston

Unfortunately I don't see NYR bending to these demands because they can get better offers elsewhere, therefore I don't see BOS and NYR doing business this year...

So assuming Boston wants him, would you do just Grabner for just a 2018 1st?

No way can i imagine Ryan Callhan waiving his NMC from a potential cup contender, Too a non-playoff team like the Rags Callahan wont go back to the NYRs.

I think he potentially could. He was loved in New York and a good captain. I think because of the fan support and everything that he would. Plus if the Rangers make good moves/draft well, and the management system is cleaned up(meaning coaching primarily) then the Rangers will be right back in a playoff spot next season.

I think that would be more appealing to Boston than the 2) 2nd's

But ultimately a package deal including McDonagh would be the ultimate target... One that doesn't include tearing down our roster...

That seems reasonable to me. I wont argue with a 1st rd pick.

Rangers would certainly prefer 1 late 1st to 2 late 2nds. This draft has a deep 1st round but drops off considerably after then.

I don't think any McDonagh trade without roster players can get done. It could've gotten done a few months ago.

What you're going to hear from most analytical Ranger fans is the basis is the Yandle deal. And if we're going by the Yandle deal the structure is:

      1st, 2nd, Debrusk and Grzelcyk.

Debrusk has 27 points right now as a 21 year old. Duclair was almost 1ppg at 19. and then put up 44 points at 20. Their value is at minimum comparable.
Grzelcyk is 24 Moore was 24. Grzelcyk is on the 3rd pair of a playoff team. So was Moore. Grzelcyk has 10 points in 37 games. Moore had 7 points in 37 games. Similar defensive abilities. At the very minimum comparable.

So that's kind of what it takes. If you're concerned about losing a winger. We add Grabner, you add another 1st. But the problem is that Bruins fans won't give up Debrusk because the Bruins would never trade a young scorer to upgrade when they already have a cup caliber roster. Not even if those players are Tyler Seguin and Blake Wheeler,...wait
