Description

Maybe he re signs, if he doesn't then they HAVE to move him.
If they're gonna move him then why can't it be us?
We've got tons of picks, prospects and depth.
I think we could do a sign and trade for a hometown discount of 8.5-9 per year.
In a couple years when our cap becomes a factor, we'll have lots of other options on players to move.
Maybe with another Seattle team and some leafs deep playoff runs that cap will be up much higher too.

I might have over valued the Bozak trade, but for a team fighting for a playoff spot and a hometown guy whose a 2 way centre it's possible. Regardless these are just random estimates I'm making.
Essentially trade JVR, Bozak, our first and whatever picks and prospects for JT.
When you're rolling those top 3 lines, you don't really need defence or a 4th line haha.
I like our D and 4 line anyways.

That doesn’t get you Tavares and you have no cap to sign him Matthews, Marner, and Nylander

Well until 2020 we don't have to worry about Marner or Mathews.
I don't think Nylander is going to break the bank to badly, we've got lots of cap room going forward and it's prolly going to go up more every year.
And by 2020 we've got lots of time and players that will come off the books or close to it.
Marleau Hainsley komorov Bozak JVR gardiner fehr Marincin the previous buyouts etc
Got lots of prospects and players to replace these guys
I'm sure they could make it work, if they gotta move someone else then so be it.
Mathews Tavares Kadri down the middle
Brown Hyman Nylander Marner Kapanen on the wing
Reily Zeitzev Dermott on D
Build around that and you'll be fine

I don't think there's any Tavares without one of Nylander/Marner/Liljegren/Dermott being the start.

I don't know any teams that would offer the Isles much more. Of course with all Leafs trades it's the same thing. Don't see Tavares signing for 9m as you suggest. I still think the Isles have the best chance of JT signing

Yeah maybe he'll resign in NY.
But at the same point, he hasn't yet.. and they are not in the same situation as Tampa was with Stamkos.
They can't lose him for nothing, areana issues, attendance issues, money issues. They barley compete with him, everytime he gets something going with a player.. they lose that player.. Moulson, Okposo etc
The team can score, there's no doubt about that, but I think they need to rebuild. If they're losing money as an organization while they pay him 5.5, they're gonna lose more money if they pay him north of 9mil per.
If he's going to resign in NY then we can't trade for him anyways. But if they can't resign him then he's leaving anyways. So Give them a bunch of prospects and picks to rebuild and save money, if that's not good enough and they want Marner+, then just wait till the summer and get him for free.

maybe one of the last 2 guys. leafs arent giving up marner/nylander for 20 games of a UFA even if his name is mcdavid so that aint happening
