IF Detroit were to trade A LOT of bad contracts to progress the rebuild...

Created by: Riddler
Team: 2017-18 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 20, 2018
Published: Feb. 20, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
DET
  1. Orpik, Brooks
  2. 2018 1st round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
I would just make the 1st a conditional 2nd based on Washington passing the second round but let's be real here...
WSH
  1. Green, Mike
Additional Details:
Instead of retaining money on Green, Detroit takes back Orpik's $5.5 million contract. The 1st round pick should be in the 20's so it isn't much to give up for a contender and Detroit is doing a favor by taking Orpik back...
2.
DET
  1. Åberg, Pontus
  2. 2019 1st round pick (NSH)
NSH
  1. Tatar, Tomas
  2. 2019 5th round pick (BUF)
3.
DET
  1. Hartman, Ryan
  2. Hossa, Marián
  3. 2019 1st round pick (CHI)
CHI
  1. Nyquist, Gustav
Additional Details:
Chicago gives up a decent prospect in Hartman up as well as a first to have Detroit take Hossa's contract.
4.
DET
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi
  2. Martin, Matt
  3. 2018 2nd round pick (TOR)
  4. 2018 4th round pick (TOR)
  5. 2019 5th round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
2018 2nd round pick becomes a 2018 1st if Leafs win the cup. The 2018 4th and 2019 5th are for taking on Martin's contract.
TOR
  1. DeKeyser, Danny ($2,500,000 retained)
  2. Nielsen, Frans ($2,350,000 retained)
  3. 2019 3rd round pick (DET)
  4. 2020 7th round pick (DET)
5.
DET
  1. 2019 6th round pick (LAK)
6.
DET
  1. Dano, Marko
  2. 2018 5th round pick (WPG)
7.
CAR
  1. Abdelkader, Justin
  2. Ericsson, Jonathan
  3. 2018 1st round pick (WSH)
  4. 2019 1st round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Two firsts since Carolina is taking some bad contracts (but moveable) for a solid young d-man. Those firsts shouldn't be too high and it's not like Detroit would be out of picks in these deals...

absolutely horrid deal for Carolina.. A young, upcoming D (who i might add, made the all star game) like Hanifin for.. 2 horrid contracts, an even horrible Washington pick and a pick that may or may not be good in 2019? absolutely atrocious.. I'm calling Carolina, if i was Chia with that price. Lucic, Russell, a couple low picks. OH WAIT, they don't need Lucic, probably not even Russell, just like they don't need Ericsson or Abdelkader, actually trade them a scoring center if you even begin to ask about a D that may be available.

They aren't trading hanifin for good stuff and certainly not for that junk pile. I like getting rid of the contracts but that wont work.

You don't understand Martin's contract, it's an easy move in the summer. Leafs have no interest in long term Nieslen and Dekeyser even at a reduced rage.

I wouldnt call erriccson's a horid contract. He is prolly the best defensive guy on our d line. But you make a good point about trading for NEED.
