The biggest reason why pens fans think Blueger is a solid player is because they lack talented prospects. Majority of NHL teams have players similar to Blueger and they never get NHL time because theres better prospects in the system</div></div>
It's clear you don't watch Wilkes Barre at all. He fits the Pens very well, he's just stuck in a center filled organization. Lots of AHL guys make an impact when given a chance nowadays. Besides, he can't be much worse than Brass.

This seems near equal value without the retention. I don't see enough going back to Edmonton to justify the retention though.
Edmonton will need to retain if they have any chance of moving Lucic... that mean A LOT of dead cap space for them.</div></div>
Understandable but the retention is for two years and I would be shocked if they manage to move Lucic within that time. However, I'd probably lessen Nuge's retention to $2million as one of the comments suggested

Brassard for Nuge
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jimmmyg</b></div><div>Love it. I think Brass has done really well lately and Pearson-Brassard-Kessel might have been our best line on Sunday against Chicago - but I have loved RNH for some time now and think he would fit in great in PIT. You did a good job of explaining this move and I agree with you on most of it I just think $3m retained is a lot for EDM to swallow. It makes perfect sense capwise for this season, but if they did decide to keep Brassard then it would essentially be whatever his contract is plus another $3m. The compensation is there for the retention for sure I just think $3mil over the next two years is a lot. Easy fix though, just soften the retention to $2m and keep the trade as is, or swap out Dea for Simon (would hate to lose either, honestly).
Kassian would be a decent RW on the 4th line with ZAR and Sheahan too. Never a bad thing to have depth that can hop in and play bottom 6 minutes.</div></div>
Agree with everything you said. Thanks a lot for the feedback and niceties!

Brassard for Nuge
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>I understand why both Brassard and Nuge are being traded. The hard part IMO from the EDM side is the $3M retained for 2 more years. There are just other options for them where they probably won't have to retain. I do think PIT should trade Brassard @ the TDL regardless of their position. It's not that PIT isn't a not contender. Clearly they are, but I think they (now) have one of the worst farm systems in the NHL. It would be a smart move to get something for Brassard since he's not really helping out this PIT team.</div></div>
Agreed on the salary retention. Wishful thinking on my part. You never know, though. Thanks for the comment!

Most Pens builds seem to scratch Maatta this year. He's another good trade chip. Cheap Tall Guy fits Chiarelli's model of a hockey player better than any other GM's, so maybe he frees them up to trade a different defenseman with some value. It's not unworkable, and it's a heck of an upgrade. Good luck. Go Metropolitan Division!</div></div>

I don't see the point for Edmonton, unless you give them some wings so they can make the playoffs, though. Or at least some trade chips to get some wings.</div></div>
Yeah, unfortunately I agree. Ideally, they could flip Brassard or use the cap space in the off-season to sign a winger or two

It's a discussion, not an actual trade proposal. No reason to rate it one star in my opinion but I respect your opinion. Also, the Oilers are having issues trading Spooner so hardly any offer will be an overpay on their end...

Jack Johnson is a solid top 6 D-man Change My Mind
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>I don't think it's just ability that has people not wanting him. He is 31and has already started to slow down a bit and he under contract for 4 more years after this year. Teams really aren't looking for a strictly defensive d man any more at least not to trade for. In todays NHL no matter what position you play you are still expected to play both end of the ice if you want to win.
If he only had another year on his contract you'd get a lot more offers. Now is he top a top 6 D man it depends on the other d on the team. I'm in Detroit and I would play him over Ericsson.
I watched PIT v ANA last night and I thought Johnson looked better than Maatta did last night.</div></div>
With the Pens being in win now, the term shouldn't matter to them as much as other teams of course. If they ever wanted to move him, it wouldn't be cheap but not too expensive. Scuderi and Hunwick got moved (obviously on less term.) Contract is the only really bad thing about Johnson. His play is way better than people give him credit for. I'll take that contract to have his play in the playoffs

THANK YOU! He is no offensive beast but to be fair, the majority of his shots get blocked. His PK is great, he blocks shots, he plays physical, and most importantly, he makes Sid happy. I also think he is a good puck mover too. I forget what game it was but him and Sid in OT were moving the puck better than anyone else that night. Definitely not the reason why we are losing...

Leafs need a right handed D if anything. They also don't need Jarry but it is never too bad to have good goalie depth. In my opinion the value is fair or very close, just not players that Toronto needs....

Pit trade your thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>Thinking Rattie is worth Sprong is equally as silly as thinking Sprong is worth Nuge in any sort of package. Being the best prospect on a team that doesn't have much in the way of prospects doesn't mean they are valuable. Sprong isn't a top flight prospect, he'll get either a young player needing a change of scenery or a 2-3rd round pick.</div></div>
That's why I said he would be part of a deal. Not a one for one... Obviously Sprong wouldn't pull McDavids best winger by himself

A Sprong trade would have to involve Nuge. Pens could give up a bit more in that case, like Maatta Rust or Simon, but Rattie makes GMJR hang up immediatly
