Boston Bruins: it would take a minor miracle 2019-2020

Created by: FryesLeapMaine
Team: 2019-20 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 28, 2018
Published: Feb. 28, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think the cap goes up again but by a smaller margin. If this does happen the team could afford to bring back Chara at half the hit if he's still playing at a high level.

Just for the record: I don't think this is likely to happen, this isn't a standard prediction of something that has a high probability but I do think that it could be a possibility if Carlson chooses to come to Boston and Ottawa puts Stone on the block.

If there is any Ottawa fans I wouldn't mind hearing what they think of the value being given to them for Stone.

As always Bruins as well as other teams fans are welcome to comment as well.

I think Backes is worth more than a 3rd right now, but this is predicting an entire year away. I'd like a 2nd, but I'd take a 3rd at this point if we needed the cap and this was one of the only teams that would take him.

    1. Backes, David
    Additional Details:
It's difficult to predict which teams will be on Backes 8 team trade list, but I think he'd like to go to a youthful playoff team to be a leader. I think Boston is a really good situation for him and that he likes it so if he has to go he might want to go to a team with similar emerging young talent that he can help mold.

Backes struggled mightily trying to adjust to living away from STL. I don't see him being willing to do it all over again.

I don't understand the comment. He doesn't have a choice.... he has to give 8 teams he'd accept a trade to and if we can make a deal with one of them then he has to go. It's a modified NTC in this year instead of a NMC.

What makes youth think NJ would be one of those 8 teams? I highly doubt they are in anyones top 8.

I think they are the real deal and have a lot of youth. I don't think he'd want to leave Boston, but if he had to go I think he'd want to be in a similar situation around some young guys who will turn into stars. I don't think he'd pick a team like Anaheim or LA unless he was just trying to block himself from being traded. I think he would like to go to a place where he's wanted and would be a primary leader and I think he'd basically have the same role there as he had here which I thought would be pretty attractive for him.

Yeah charas going year to year like detroit did with lidstrom makes sense but you still have to pay him to keep him here. He isnt signing a 1 year at 2 mil contract. Its more like 4.5 or 5 really to keep him. Id move backes if you could but i dont think he has much left in the tank and you'll have to give to get him gone. Its not a bad package for stone but he is young enough to hold onto and still be in his prime when the young pieces show up. I don't think they move him.

I strongly disagree with you about Chara. He'll be 42 years old at this point and he's stated he wants to remain in Boston. We don't have any more cap to offer him if we sign a UFA which we probably will. If we stay as it is right now then yeah maybe he gets 3M, but he's only making 4M this current season so it's unreasonable to think that he'll get bumped up to 5M as he gets even older.

Yeah his actual dollar amount isnt his cap hit number but chara is a top 4 defenseman still and has shown he still has gas in the tank. You can disagree about 5 mil but he'll get and is worth closer to my 5mil than your 2mil. You think he is really worth less than kevin millar or adam mcquaid. No way.

Adam McQuaid is no longer with the team and Kevan Miller will be gone in one season. The prices are going to change for older veterans to the Bruins. No way do players get Chiarelli type deals anymore.

NJ doesn’t give him any better shot at a Cup than Boston does. Having to uproot family again. Finishing his career with an O 6 team or....New Jersey? A bottom 5 in attendance with a good team nobody cares about New Jersey? Would you? So....no then. NJ not making his 8 team list. Could make it a dozen and they wouldn’t make it.

Yeah older washed up veterans don't get junk. Chara isn't that kinda guy.

Are you a fortune teller? This isn't a mock of next season, it's over a full season away. I'm glad you have so much confidence, but Chara might not even be good enough to earn a contract by then. A lot of people thought he fell off last season and was almost done so I don't know how you are so positive Chara at 42 years old is going to be a 5M player lol.
