Why would OTT take on a third line center, a third line winger, a 6th d-man, and a late first for a top-10/top-5 pick and Chabot, a highly rated defenseman?

Yeah, the C wont waive the NMC that’s on his contract for no reason, the winger was sent to the minors last year (BY THE COYOTES! Ouch...), and that D-man is 6th at best. So this trade isnt even realistic

I love it. Ottawa gets out of Bobby Ryan's contract by sending him to the only team where his contract will fit right in!

Yes, I would sign him until he's 35..... He would be a cheap long-term solution...

Yet Melnyk wants to get rid of Ryan's contract..

And which team will take him?

Duclair is a fine asset, Anisimov's NMC goes bye-bye July 1st, Gustafsson is NHL ready and has plenty of potential.. And lets not forget Ottawa gets Nashville's first round pick to boot.. Also, Anisimov isn't a 3rd line center that is just disingenuous... I don't see how Schmaltz being the Hawks 2nd line center of the future somehow is a knock on Anisimov or his capabilities as a legitimate #2 center...... It makes sense for the Hawks to move on from Anisimov because he's redundant moving forward .... Either way I would ship him somewhere else if Ottawa wasn't interested.

Show me a team that will give that - that can give that or would give that for Ryan... It's not going to happen.

Heck, the Hawks don't even have to include any assets in the deal..... If Ottawa just wants to dump Ryan in Chicago with the top 5 pick for a seventh round pick I would be fine with that too..... However no teams are going to touch him without that pick or a couple of really really good prospects..

Nashville's first round pick for Bobby Ryan and Ottawa's top 5 pick ..... I would do that if that, and I don't think many teams would..

idk what to say other than wow this is bad. Chabot and that top 3 pick is the future of that organization. Ryan could be making $30 mil(yes i know this is not possible) and they still wouldn't consider this

You don't know what you're talking about...... Melnyk is trying to move Ryan and no team will touch him even at 50%..

And you better believe Melnyk cares, he's the one writing Ryan's check ..

Now who does Melnyk have that would make taking Ryan worthwhile? I mean this is a 7.250 contract - NOT a 4 million dollar cap dump.

Heck, it took Teravainen for Bowman to rid himself of 3 years of Bickell at 4 per.....

Ryan will be traded and Ottawa will give up something really nice to move him - then I will laugh...

Just gettin rid of the Ryan contract isnt worth throwing away Chabot and a top 5 pick, escpecially in a draft like this year’s that’s really deep with special prospects! I just dont think 2 future franchise players and a cap dump are worth a 2C (Remember, the Sens just traded away a 2C in Brassard), a 3L, a 6 D, and 2 picks.

Ryan is owed $29,000,000 so you better believe it will take that top 5 pick and a very good prospect to dump that contract in a teams lap with nothing going back to Ottawa..

I would keep the assets I put in that trade and take Ryan, the top 5 pick and Chabot for a 7th round pick..

No one is doing Otttawa any favors....

Heck, it took TT to dump Bickell - and Bickell cap hit and salary was only 4 million, Ryan is 7,250,000.

Melnyk isn't keeping Ryan... Melnyk is hemorrhaging money - the team cant afford to keep him..... I don't know why people think finances take a back seat to fan satisfaction... Why do you think Ottawa is taking offers on Karlsson? Ottawa cant afford to resign him... Trading Bobby Ryan would be a good start...

I mean I agree, Ottawa has no reason to trade Ryan from a hockey perspective - but from a financial perspective Melnyk does an Melnyk will..... He's not going to keep Ryan and he may not keep Karlsson.... Karlsson is obviously and easy sell however Melnyk is going to have to bribe a team to take Ryan and it will cost that top 5 and that top 5 pick is the best chance they have to move Ryan.

Nobody's denying that the Melnyk wants to get rid of Ryan because that's obvious. But your price tag is just nuts. I could see a possible trade for the top 5 pick and Ryan for a haul of other picks maybe. But Chabot isn't just a top defensive prospect. He's one of the best up and comers and Melnyk would be an idiot to trade him, especially along with a top 5 pick.

That top 5 pick is going with Ryan and Ottawa will get nothing in return..

You better believe ALL Ryan talks begin and end with that top 5 pick.... What other assets does Ottawa have? oh right - not many because they traded them all away to Colorado for Duchene..

To make matters worse Melnyk will have to find a team that a) has cap space, b) is willing to take on the contract and c) Bobby Ryan will have to waive his NMC.... Good luck to Ottawa finding that ....The Hawks are like THE ONLY TEAM that meets the prerequisites for landing Ryan....

My point is that Ottawa is in absolutely no position to negotiate or bargain with Ryan's contract.....

No team is going to add anything...

It will be Ryan & top 5 pick for a 3rd round pick...... If they're LUCKY - and this is the best case scenario (and the one I presented) a team may be willing to take Ryan to switch draft spots with Ottawa..

I cant even believe this is a debate...
