I thought the Leafs were really ripped off in that Montreal trade, then I saw Dallas trade "for rights". Johnsson gets 4.5m after his first NHL goal?

Let's start with the Dallas trade. There is no way on Earth that Jim Nill takes that trade. He'd essentially be trading all of those picks for control of Gauthier. JVR is a UFA after the season. If Nill were so inclined to pursue JVR, he'd do so in the offseason when he becomes a free agent. Now, that being said, you're essentially mortgaging Toronto's entire future on three guys who will all be UFA's within 3 years. That is an insane gamble. Toronto already has a really good team. Why minimize your window for the future by taking all three, when you could trade for one of them, get better, and keep the majority of the players that have you where you are right now. Not to mention all the picks and prospects you'd be keeping in your pocket. This entire scenario is all very unnecessary for the Maple Leafs.

yeah man, obviously he's going to score 40 goals a year for the next 8 years now.

Thanks , now I get it. 2 games, 1 goal. That's 41 goals a year. Sign up him now, really cheap for 4.5m. Actually it's kinda like the Zaitsev deal.

Montreal would be laughing their asses off if they got that deal from the Leafs. Total robbery. Lou would never work in hockey again. Johnsson will make $925 k for the next two years probably. Why would Dallas pay for the rights to JVR when they can just sign him in free agency?
