For a one-year rental for Karlsson, that trade isn't even close. Look at what McDonagh pulled via Tampa. Sure there's more term involved, but Karlsson's significantly better than McDonagh. He's generational. Needs to be more than a 1st, a top prospect, and a good roster player.

Duchene and Ryan trades are garbage. Unless Ottawa can get something similar in return for what they gave up to get for Duchene, no way they move him. Calgary doesn't even have their 1st Round Pick this draft either, and a 50% Ryan isn't even worth that much. The Flames' depth scoring issues can be fixed via free agency without having to give up Valimaki.

The trouble with focusing on being nasty and telling people to go away is that it doesn't teach them anything.

You're right, but explain why, and for which side.

Like, Colin Miller is three years younger, is in his first full season as an NHL regular, is top fifty among defensemen in points, has more goals, and has a better plus minus than Karlsson. A one for one would fail to fix Vegas' one organizational weakness which is that they only have two right handed defensemen, and it's doubtful Vegas would accept. If Karlsson were at his peak, this trade would be great for Vegas, sure. But he's not scoring twenty goals, and he's not playing a 200 foot game. Miller might be closer to both (although Vegas' superior depth at defense keeps them from having to find out whether he can play a ton of minutes, whereas Ottawa's desire to boost Karlsson's offensive totals back to his healthy young levels keep him playing way, way too many minutes).

If you want to trade Bobby Ryan's contract for a prospect and a first round pick, Ottawa will have to set him up for thirty goals next year, first. There's no other way that happens. You get him thirty goals, and that trade is fine. It might take 80% offensive zone starts with Hoffman and Duchene, but if they can just jiggle him and make him look alive, while they bounce a few goals off his legs, I really think they can Weekend at Bernie's their way out of this.

But like u just did, I was going to let others do that because it wouldve taken a while to explain the mistakes

There won't be "a one-year rental for Karlsson" trade, the team trading for Karlsson will want to get him with an extension in place, which is why he won't be traded before July 1st, IF he is traded.

But you're right on the rest

Karlsson and Duchene, I wouldn't even think about it, it's a big no right from the start

The Ryan trade, even if you make his contract attractive by retaining 50%, you wouldn't get a top prospect and a (possible) high pick. Look at the Brassard trade for example. In that case, I think the return would be more like a 2nd and a lower quality prospect (good but not as good as Välimäki)
