The Yotes need another goalie, and the Jets would love to move that contract I would have to think.

For the Jets, this is a flat out salary dump. And that is gonna cost you. I for one see Stanley a long ways off from being an impact in Winnipeg. Given the Yotes situation on the blueline, I have to think this is a guy that would have some value for Arizona. If anyone thinks I am on glue...... the price tags for picking up bad or dead contracts (see Tervainen, Crouse) is well.... steep. Jets could use the room. End of discussion.

As far a Mason is concerned, yes this is a risk reward. Mason is a solid goaltender; but his track record is checkered. Which Mason does Arizona get? If it's the same guy as in Winnipeg, your only on the hook for one year. If its Philly Mason, well..... you might have yourself an asset. Hence the conditional draft choice. My hunch is you get something in between that splits time with Keumper.

Throwing in a prospect to grease the wheel, and to maintain contract numbers.

BUF
  1. Ekman-Larsson, Oliver
Additional Details:
Yotes need to solidify their right wing. THis deal can do that.

Granted, moving Ekman-Larsson is gutsy, but I am of the opinion that he will not be wanting to resign in Arizona. You do this deal at the draft, giving the Sabrtes a full yar to extend him. Why would the sabres do this? Because Ekman-Larsson and Ristolainen as your top pairing is ridiculously good. Sabres have the forward depth to pull this off. (Middlesatdt, Nylander......) Not that far fetched.....

In Reinhart The Yotes get a long term fixture on the right side in thier top 6. For that matter, he just might cement the top six. McCabe is a solid pick up on the back end you is still on the younger side, and time to grow.

The value is in that conditional pick. Yes, I am not sure the Coyotes need more picks, but you can never have enough assets...... I see this really being a 1st rounder.
3.
ARI
  1. Abramov, Vitaly
Additional Details:
Thinking the Jackets are all in at some point, and a cheap Hjalmarsson is gonna help the blueline next year. NO way they get talent like that at that price point. Hjalmarsson for $2 million is a deal!

I get Abramov is a pretty good prospect for a guy that is a one year rental; but he is I would say 2-3 years out - time Arizona has. AS I said the Jackets are here and now. Fabulous pick up at no cost to the existing roster.

Why am I moving him? LIke his counter part, just dont see him staying in the dessert.

As a Winnipeg fan, I can't see us throwing in Stanley for a cap dump situation. I definitely see where you're coming from, but when Myers contract expires, I see Stanley as the replacement. Maybe it's just because they're the same size haha, but I don't think Winnipeg would part with him in this deal. Cap issue aren't going to be affecting the Jets next year as much as they will the year after. Which is when Mason's contract ends so I don't see a huge need to get rid of his contract. I like the thought behind it, just my opinion!

Interesting take, and only a few million over the Yotes internal budget.

Problem is this roster is based on a very weak set of premises. By all accounts, it sounds like Raanta, OEL, and Richardson are set to re-sign. Hjalmarsson will probably not be re-signed this off-season, but - depending on his play and the outcome of free agency and the draft - I wouldn't be surprised to see him re-sign at some point during next season either. He was excellent when healthy and their record with him vs without him attests to that fact.

OEL 8 X $8M with full NMC
Raanta 4 X $4.25M
Richardson 1 X $1.75M
Domi is harder to peg, because he struggled to start the year, had an awful shooting percent, and only scored like 3 goals all year long (the other 5 were EN). I'm guessing either a short "show me" bridge, or a longer 3 or 4 X $3.25M.

If they "need to solidify their right wing", I think Svechnikov through the draft, Merkley through the prospect pool, or someone like Vanek or Bozak through free agency is the way it will be addressed.

The Sabres are the wrong team to send OEL to. Sabres have little chance of signing him. If OEL won't sign with Arizona, the Sabres have little chance too.

You make an excellent case for the value of that Hjalmarsson trade, but it's completely undermined by the fact that we're pretty well set as is. If we feel the need for a shutdown LHD, we'll resign Cole - who's younger, shown excellent chemistry with Savard already, and won't cost us Abramov.

I hear where your coming from, but for a team that is in "win now" mode, $4.1 million could be so much better used than on a back up goaltender - say like knowing you can given some term to a guy like Statsny without worrying about cap.

Stanley isn't exactly bluechip (he's good for sure, but not a game changer). And..... obviously the Jets can draft. They'll find another Stanley.

I dunno there Pal Hal.......

I like what Botterill is doing. The core of that team long term looks better the Arizona. Eichel, Nylander, MIddlestadt, Ristotlainen, etc.

If am on in for the long term, I'd say the Sabres have the money and a good chance......

Appreciate the feedback.

Moving OEL was something I was struggling with. But having done it, I think the team is better balanced up front. Issue being of course, is can I convince Carlsson to sign? Kinda the whole crux of it. Failure to do so, the deal is an unmitigated disaster.

Your right. Just think Hjalmarsson is a pretty big upgrade on Cole.

Not to mention 3 Cups........

Maybe, but existing chemistry counts for a lot. And Cole has two, and they're more recent. wink
