We Need a Defenseman

Created by: Bellairs
Team: 2018-19 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 12, 2018
Published: Apr. 12, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think with how ST Louis’s season ended and trading away Stastny, they’re going to want another center that has some experience. Vlad is perf. Rangers need a defenseman which the Blues have a surplus of and the Blue need depth which the Rangers have.

Shutdown right defenseman good for 30-40 pts vs middle six centerman good for 40-50 pts? I think the gap in value there is much greater than a 2nd round pick. Parayko is an untouchable piece of the Blues core - Namestnikov was just traded away in the midst of the TBL cup run. In terms of value, it would take at least Zibanejad for Parayko (not saying it would happen).

The Rangers are now totally entrenched in a full-scale rebuild. It would not make sense to make a trade for a player like Parayko, because of the assets it would take to get him. Instead, let the Rangers finished near the end of the standings for the next few years so that they can build up their own picks into prospects and hopefully into some starts, or at minimum, quality and serviceable NHL players.

Good because you're still not getting Edmundson for Namestnikov. He's a forward that owes most of his success to his linemates. Beyond Pietrangelo/Parayko/Edmundson, our D depth is weak/inexperienced, so those 3 are not being traded. And just to nit-pick, Edmundson won't be signing for less than a million bucks, try more like 3-4 million depending on the term. Edmundson's rate stats compare to Ekholm's in most cases - he scores at about the same rate 5v5, he plays against top competition and fares pretty well, and he's only 24 years old.
