Carolina blockbuster. Really would like constructive feedback

Created by: joshelkin
Team: 2018-19 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: May 3, 2018
Published: May 3, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The way I see it:

Hanifin for Lee and 11 OA.

2 OA for Nelson, Ho-Sang, 12 OA

Carolina was originally slotted for the 11th slot in the draft. I think this trade would allow them to fully bolster their Top-9 forwards (Lee LW1, Nelson C2/C3, Ho-Sang RW3) and still give them back to back picks early in a very deep draft.

The Isles get back a Top defenseman to strengthen their core, plus the second pick which can be used to take Svechnikov.

Your sum of the parts may be close, but I just don't see Carolina giving up the two most valuable pieces in the deal, even if they are getting back good overall value. I'd think they would probably make a deal for one or the other though.

I would guess Carolina keeps their 2 overall considering they were not expecting to get it and can really take advantage of getting Zadina to play alongside Necas, or Svechnikov if they don't see the value of Zadina and Necas chemistry from WJ.

I think more realistic is just a 1st Nelson and Ho-Sang for Hanifin. If Tavares stays I would think he would want Lee to stay on his wing.

Yeah I don't really want to trade Lee. Homerism aside, he is one of my favorite players on the team simply because he is fearless in front of the net. His hand/eye is unmatched and would be impossible to completely replace. I signed JVR for the sake of rounding out the team and giving JT another legit winger. Honestly, if Hanifin for Nelson/JHS/1st would go through, I'd do that in a heartbeat. Not sure if CAR would see that as enough value though.

I think you may be underestimating Lee's value a tad (I'd put him just about equal to Hanifin). But I see where you're coming from

Yeah I would think Carolina would prefer a more of a 1 for 1 for Hanifin for a better center like O'reilly from Buff. But also agree with you on Lee, and I think JVR and Lee are very similar players so why not use that money on Lee someone who Tavares is already shown chemistry with.

I think that the Hanifin trade part is excellent. Lee and the 11th is great. I don’t know if Carolina would trade the /nd Overall Pick. If they did, they’d look for someone who is willing to overpay. What you offered would not be substantial because it isn’t an overpay. How I would do it is I’d add Kieffer Bellows and take on the full cap hit of a bad contract. That way they’d have enough assets to be comfortable with. Another thing is that Carolina isn’t trading their pick or Hanifin (unless it’s for a #1 center). They have Hanifin who is an immediate impact player and the 2nd overall who will most likely step into the lineup immediately and be impactful as well. I don’t see them trading either for prospects or picks because that makes them a rebuilding team. But they’re finally getting close to a playoff spot so I’d assume that they’d try to build around Hanifin and the 2nd overall, rather than trading them away.

I realize Lee is a valuable piece (and I'm actually a fan of his). The value I'm referring to comes more from the fact that Hanafin is younger and has a longer period of contractual control. I think the Isles would be really smart to try to lock up Lee to a team friendly long term deal though.

I like it very much, you are not over valuing your assets as many other CF GM are infamous for doing.
11th and 12th are nearly equal to the 2nd and early 3rd makes up the difference.
So the other half of the trade are Lee, A. + Ho-Sang, J. + Brock Nelson = to Hanifin IMO yes and more.
Is Ho-Sang + Nelson + 1st = to Hanifin I just do not think that would get Waddell to budge.

Hanafin is just too special of a defenseman to let go. Carolina would want to trade Faulk before Hanafin. Carolina is giving up a can’t miss prospect and a potential franchise defenseman. Just not going to happen.

I think Hanifin is the most overrated 21 and under player in the league right now. People make him out to be the next Bobby Orr for crying out loud.......

Yes he's good. Yes I would love to have him on my team.

No he isn't better than Werenski, Provorov, McCavoy, and I think Sergachev will be a better dman then him quiet soon.

Once again, Im not saying he is not a bad player. Just think he gets so over hyped and I just don't understand why.

I agree with what you said. I do think he is a Top-4 Dman and could make a great pairing with Pulock though.
